Seminar - GWU Department of Forensic Sciences

The George Washington University, Mount Vernon Campus, is hosting Robert Ramotowski, Chief Research Scientist for the United States Secret Service Forensic Sciences Division, for a presentation titled "The Evolution of Latent Print Development Techniques" on November 4, 2011 at 4:10PM in Academic Building 301.

Graduate School Preview Day

Are you thinking about graduate school?  This Thursday, November 3, 2011, stop by Graduate School Preview Day from 8:30AM to 2:00PM in the Colony Ballroom of the Stamp Student Union.  The Graduate School will have representatives from UM graduate programs on hand to meet with students, learn about opportunities for research, and give tips on grad school applications.  You can also hear from current UM grad students about their experience, or tour the campus to visit research centers and labs.

Spring 2012 Registration

Spring registration begins tomorrow, Thursday, October 27, 2011 for special populations.  Registration times for seniors and juniors will begin October 31 - November 10, 2011, and for sophomores and freshmen it will begin November 14 - December 8, 2011.  All students can view their individual registration date and time through the MY UMD portal at  http://my.umd.edu .  Registration dates and times are set by credit level; therefore, advisors do not set nor can they change registration dates and times.

Scholarship Opportunity - Carnegie Junior Fellows Program

Attention Seniors and Recent Grads with a strong International Affairs background


Each year the Carnegie Endowment offers 8-10 one-year fellowships to highly qualified graduating seniors and individuals who have graduated during the past academic year. Carnegie Junior Fellows provide research assistance to senior researchers working on the Carnegie Endowment's projects such as non-proliferation, democracy building, trade, US leadership, China-related issues and Russian/Eurasian studies. Scholarship Opportunity - Udall Scholarship in Environmental Issues

Learn about the Udall Scholarship in Environmental Issues, a program that seeks to identify future environmental leaders in fields including public policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. Students from all majors are eligible. The Udall Scholarship provides up to $5,000 for tuition, room and board, or other educational expenses. Paid Research Opportunity - Maryland Center for Undergraduate Research

Are you a freshman, sophomore or junior interested in summer 2012 research opportunities in natural sciences, engineering, or social sciences?  Learn about the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program!  The National Science Foundation (NSF) funds a large number of paid summer research opportunities for undergraduate students through its "Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)" program.  The REU program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation.  REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing NSF-funded research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program.

Looking for an internship?  Join the Public Leadership Internship Program (PLIP)!  Students can be any major and must demonstrate an interest in public service of some sort. Earn up to 6 credits and as explore ways to learn and secure a job in the future.  Most employers want substantial work experience in addition to your degree.  Internships not only build critical work skills, but also provide you with critical contacts that you can leverage for graduate school or jobs in the future.

Internship Opportunity - Maryland Internship Program

Are you a capable and motivated undergraduate student looking for an internship in Annapolis? The Maryland Internship Program (MIP) is a comprehensive program focused on State government that allows students to integrate what they learn in the classroom with real world experience in the political process. Each spring, 15 to 20 highly-qualified undergraduate students are placed in internships where they work with and learn from officials in state government. Possible internship placements include the offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, members of the General Assembly, state agencies, and courts. Participants earn course credit and stipends during the semester-long program by attending weekly seminars and completing various assignments, aside from their internship duties. Alumni of the Maryland Internship Program will also take with them invaluable experiences, skills, and networking that will help them find, and succeed in, careers in government, politics, or any other field.

Winter registration begins today, Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 7:30 AM for ALL students.  Registration for the winter session is completed through Testudo.
