Position:              Undergraduate Internship (unpaid, for credit) – SUMMER AND/OR FALL SEMESTER 2013
Title:                    Research Assistant
Duties:                 The intern’s primary responsibilities will be to assist in the development and maintenance of the Maryland Community Services Locator website (www.mdcsl.org). Specific duties include:

  • Verify the accuracy of program listings in the database using online sources and telephone surveys
  • Data entry (using Excel) for responses from provider surveys
  • Assist in augmenting the comprehensiveness of the existing database through database comparisons, resource inventories, etc.
  • Outreach to community providers to promote awareness of the MDCSL in Maryland
  • Field work with community providers to promote awareness and use of the website
  • Assist with dissemination of materials to providers
  • Other duties as assigned

Scholarship For Transfer Students



SECU recently announced our partnership with the University System of Maryland Foundation (USMF) to establish a scholarship program for Maryland community college graduates transferring to four year Maryland universities. USMF will manage and administer SECU’s $50,000 gift as ten individual $5,000 scholarships to students transitioning from one of the state’s two-year community colleges to any of USM’s 12 institutions and two regional higher educational centers for the fall 2013 semester.

    University System of Maryland’s undergraduate-degree granting institutions, and who have earned,
    or anticipate earning, an associate’s degree prior to transferring to the USM institution.
•   Scholarship awards will be based on academic merit (at least a B average) and demonstrated
    financial need.
•   Applicants must also be a SECU member. Not a member? You can be! Membership
    in SECU is open to all students attending a Maryland community college.

CCJS Needs Maryland Day Volunteers

DEADLINE EXTENDED - Internship Opportunity: PGCPD Assistant Chief (Summer 2013)

This unpaid summer internship is with the Assistant Chief of Police for the Prince George’s County, Maryland, Police Department.  The intern will work directly with the Assistant Chief and his staff on special projects.  

In particular, the intern projects will consist of both external traffic safety initiatives and an internal Department police safe driving campaign.  The intern will assist in reviewing crash data as well as trying to identify contributing factors and common characteristics among the crash data.  The intern will also perform tasks related to the Assistant Chief’s position on the State’s traffic safety committee.   In addition, the intern should expect to attend meetings and briefings with the Assistant Chief and shadow him on a daily basis.

Howard County Police Hiring: Open Testing April 13, 2013





Howard County Police Department is holding written and physical ability testing for Entry Level Police Officer positions this Saturday (April 13th) at 9:00 AM at the Public Training Facility in Marriottsville.  HCPD is expecting to start an Academy 38 class in July.  This will be the last testing opportunity to make it into our July academy class.  The hiring process will be very quick for anyone coming out this Saturday who pass both the written and physical ability test.  Applicants need to bring a photo ID and our Physical Authorization Form from the Recruitment page of our website www.hcpd.org.  The form must be signed by a doctor or nurse practitioner.

Internship Opportunity: Office of the Inspector General

The Office of the Inspector General is recruiting students into our Volunteer Internship Program to assist the Office of Investigations in various Federal and State criminal investigations. This is a developmental position to provide assistance to Special Agents by researching and developing evidence on criminal and civil cases. 



This is an UNPAID internship position for the 2013 academic semester that begins on June 1, 2013 and will terminate on August 31, 2013.  These dates are flexible due to each student’s academic circumstances with their respective university / college.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Regional Enforcement Division is accepting applications for police interns. Interns will work closely with detectives assigned to investigate robberies, violent repeat offenders, motor vehicle theft rings, or homicides. Interns can receive up to 6 credits after successful completion of this internship.

Interns Will Receive Hands on Experience in the Follow Areas:
o   Custodial Interrogations / Miranda Warnings / Confession Law
o   Forensic Investigations Including Finger Prints / DNA Analysis
o   Search and Seizure / Consent Searches / Search Warrants
o   Evidentiary Concerns / Suppression Hearings
o   Firearms Identification / Firearms Processing / Court Testimony
o   Interviews of Victims / Witnesses / Grand Jury Proceedings

Requirements:

o   Interns will be required to work evening shift hours.  These hours are between 4 PM and 2AM (hours and days are flexible)
o   Interns will assist in the investigation of violent crimes and must understand that they may see disturbing scenes
o   Court appearances are not anticipated but may be required in extreme cases
o   Interns must be Criminal Justice Majors, juniors or seniors, with at least a 3.0 GPA
o   Interns will be required to pass a national criminal records check
o   Interns must submit a one page resume and unofficial transcript
o   Interns must complete a faculty recommendation form (Available at the criminal justice advising office)

All Trip Leaders commit to and serve in this role for one complete year (from May 2013 until May 2014).

The AB Trip Leader role is a valuable and unique leadership, personal and professional development experience for undergraduate and graduate students. This role is a structured experience guided by on-going mentorship, training, and feedback focused on TL and participant learning through knowledge acquisition and experience.

Maryland Parent Association (MPA) Student Scholarship Award Applications Available Now!


Maryland Parents AssociationApplications are currently being accepted for the Maryland Parents Association Student Scholarship Award. The scholarship provides assistance to current undergraduate students in good standing who may be unable to continue their education at the University due to extenuating personal or family financial circumstances. Thanks to the generosity of Chatham, T. Rowe Price Foundation and parent donors, scholarships of up to $2,000 (per student) will be awarded for the 2013-2014 academic year. A minimum of 12 scholarships will be awarded.
