Welcome to the Fall 2014 semester. CCJS Advising has relocated over the summer and we are now permanently located in 2201 LeFrak Hall.

Fall Internship - Department of Homeland Security

U.S. Department of Homeland Security sealThe White House Liaison’s Office (WHLO) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is looking for motivated students interested in an opportunity to participate in a part-time internship program. Fall interns will have an opportunity to work alongside DHS employees, gain critical work experience, and build invaluable relationships. The WHLO Intern Program provides a robust and exciting experience where participants feel challenged with substantive projects and are afforded unique exposure to various sections and components of the Department.

Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled at a university, college or community college at least half-time
  • Must be able to pass a  full background check
  • Student is available to work at least 20 hours a week

Join a 1-credit Diversity Dialogue for Fall 2014

These dialogues satisfy the General Education Cultural Competency requirement. This semester dialogue topics include:

- Race
- Gender
- (Dis)ability
- Sexual Identity
- US Born/Internationally Born
- Veteran/Non-Veteran
- A dialogue between UMD students and members of the community of College Park

1 Credit Dialogue Course for Veterans - EDHI 338V

This fall the Office of Diversity & Inclusion is offering a 1-credit Intergroup Dialogue (EDHI 338V, Mondays 4:30-6:30pm, Oct 27 - Dec 8) for students who identify as veterans, people who have served in the military, and active-duty service members, with civilian students in a sustained and facilitated conversation for 7 weeks. The course fulfills a Gen Ed Cultural Competency Requirement.

ATF Hiring Information Session- Special Agent Positions

All students within nine months of graduation and alumni have been invited to the event below. Please contact Crystal Sehlke, csehlke@umd.edu, UMD University Career Center, to receive instructions on how to RSVP and location details immediately.

If you are a US Citizen, between the ages of 21-37*,  able to pass a drug screening, polygraph test, physical task test, as well as medical and written examinations, please let us know whether you are interested in a career as a Special Agent with ATF.  If so, we must meet you in person for an information session. Three sessions have been scheduled for the times, dates, and locations below.  Please choose one that best fits your schedule.

Hagerstown City Police Department Hiring!

Fall Internship: Howard County Republican Party

The Howard County Republican Party is seeking political campaign interns for the 2014 fall semester. We are seeking personable and courteous individuals who possess excellent verbal communication skills. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to experience the inner workings of a political campaigns and/or working with the party central committee. 

Interns will learn about the organizational, and operational functions of a campaign including field work, campaign messaging, outreach to the community, use of technological tools (such as MS Office, Goggle Docs, social media, use of databases), attending campaign events, and brainstorming. 

Spring 2015 Internship: Department of Justice

The United States Department of JusticeThe Natural Resources Section of the U.S. Department of Justice, Environment and Natural Resources Division, is seeking a talented, dedicated undergraduate student to assist trial attorneys in our motions-based and trial practices during Spring 2015 for approximately 10 hours per week.  

Intern duties may include reviewing administrative records compiled by agencies in defense of actions brought under NEPA to locate information supporting legal arguments, reviewing depositions, performing basic legal research, and drafting internal memoranda.
