Justice for Juniors: Campus Organization Accepting Volunteers

You are cordially invited to serve as a Justice for Juniors Volunteer Tutor at the DC Juvenile Jail year round on Mondays, 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.;  and on Sundays, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the UMD Hillel, 7612 Mowat Lane.  There will be a tutoring closing session this Sunday, December 13 at 2:45PM that interested/new volunteers are encouraged to attend.  The closing session will take place at the UMD Hillel.
Justice for Juniors is an interfaith social justice juvenile recidivism reduction endeavor involving students from GW, Catholic University and UMD who mentor and tutor detained juveniles throughout the year.  A Juvenile Justice Forum is scheduled at UMD each fall and at GW each spring. These forums exam juvenile justice police and practices and have been co-sponsored by the US Justice Department, the DC Superior Court, the Prince George's County Police Department and the State Attorney's Offices and local churches.

This fall volunteers tutored 30 juveniles referred by the Juvenile Justice System. Justice for Juniors is seeking 50 UMD volunteers to serve as tutors, mentors and to coordinate the spring juvenile justice forum. An unpaid internship is available.  If you are available, you may contact Chaplain Johnson at Jsiafa@gmail.com to set up an orientation schedule.
