BSOS Diversity Advisory Council - Student Representatives Needed

Image result for bsos umdThe College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) Diversity Advisory Council (DAC) is made up of BSOS faculty, staff, students, and administration. The DAC serves an advisory function for the dean on matters of diversity and inclusion within the College and University. The DAC also provides a forum for the exchange of diversity and inclusion information and discussion of matters pertinent to the college community. Student representatives will serve as full members of the committee. As a representative of the DAC, students will receive excellent leadership and networking experience as they work alongside college faculty, staff, administrators, and fellow students.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the Department of Health and Human Services fights fraud, waste, and abuse in HHS programs including Medicare, Medicaid, Healthcare Marketplaces, NIH, FDA, CDC and more. HHS OIG is the largest Federal inspector general's office, employing a nationwide network of auditors, investigators, attorneys, and evaluators to provide program recommendations to decision-makers, distribute educational resources to the industry and public, and investigate cases to root out fraud.

Who May Apply: Recent Graduates who have completed within the previous two years a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.

Open Teaching Assistant Position for CCJS 225 Spring 2017

Image result for ccjs umdProfessor Xie has an opening for a Spring 2017 undergraduate teaching assistants for CCJS 225 section 0101 - Responses to Violence. Students will earn credit (CCJS 386) for their TA responsibilities.

Undergraduate teaching assistants must meet the following requirements:

  • A cumulative GPA of a 3.20 or higher
  • A grade of A- or higher earned in the class you are TAing (CCJS 225)
  • A minimum of 56 cumulative credits earned  
  • Ability to attend class the class you are TAing (Monday and Wednesday from 3:00 PM - 4:15PM)

All interested students should contact Dr. Xie directly at mxie@umd.edu as soon as possible.  Please note, CCJS 386 will not fulfill the CCJS Course of Choice degree requirement.

Participate in Intern For A Day

Intern for a Day connects undergraduate UMD students with alumni, parents, employers and community partners for one day internship/shadowing experiences.  This fall, we have 200+ hosts with 550+ possible shadowing placements in a wide variety of fields and industries!


In order to be considered for Intern for a Day, students must attend a short, 30-minute orientation session which covers the application process, workplace etiquette, appropriate dress, professional correspondence and more.  There are eight (8) orientation sessions available to attend from October 3-October 6, 2016.  Please click on the date and time of the orientation session that works best with your schedule to RSVP. All orientations take place in the University Career Center & The President's Promise (3100 Hornbake Library, South Wing).

Fall 2016 Intern for a Day Orientation Options: 
Students who have already participated in Intern for a Day still need to attend one orientation session.  

The Intern for a Day application deadline is Sunday, October 9 at 11:59 p.m.  Students will receive the application via email after attending one mandatory orientation session. More details can be found at go.umd.edu/InternForADay
