CCJS Advising - Closed Friday May 31

CCJS Advising will be closed Friday, May 31, 2019.  Advisors will be available via email (ccjsadvising@umd.edu).  The CCJS Advising office will reopen 9:00 AM on 
Monday, June 3, 2019.

All students submitting Honors applications, can submit their applications to the CCJS Main Office, located in LeFrak Hall, room 2220.  

CCJS Honors Program - Applications Due Mon June 3

Image result for ccjs umdThe deadline to apply to the CCJS Honors Program is quickly approaching!  All applications must be received by 12:00 PM on Monday, June 3, 2019.  The CCJS Honors Program is structured to enhance a student’s analytical skills, research capability, critical thinking, and writing ability.

Students who participate in our Honors Program experience the following benefits:

  • Smaller, discussion-based classes with no more than 20 students
  • One-on-one interactions with CCJS tenured faculty members
  • Ability to conduct independent research on a topic of your interest in the criminal justice field
  • Ability to develop and write your own thesis/research proposal and orally defend it to a committee of faculty and graduate students
  • A chance to stand out among roughly 850 CCJS majors when applying to internships, jobs, grad school, or law school

The above listed bullet points are just a few examples of the many benefits of participating in our Honors Program.  Students graduating from our Honors Program receive an Honors notation on their diplomas/transcripts, and have the opportunity to add a very unique experience to their resume.

Joseph Greenwald & Laake, PA is currently looking for an intern who is professional, and desires to learn about private law practice in the field of worker’s compensation and personal injury litigation.

Candidate must adhere to confidentiality and  have good computer skills, writing skills, and great manner with people. He or she will assist in such things as taking notes in client meetings, obtaining medical records, preparing exhibits for trial, and as part of the learning aspect, able to attend a hearing or deposition with the Attorney . The intern may also learn logistics of filing the claim and assisting the paralegals in their work load.  The position is currently unpaid and intern must have transportation.

Meals for students during Ramadan

Image result for umd diningDining Services has put together a meal plan program to assist students who will be fasting during Ramadan.  Dining Services will offer Ramadan morning meals starting Sunday, May 5. Students who are interested in this program should visit dining.umd.edu,click on the Ramadan banner, and fill out the request form.  

After making the request, when students come to the dining halls for the evening meal, they can collect a morning meal. The meals will be available from either The Diner or South Campus Dining Hall after 8:00 PM the evening before.

Summer and Fall 2019 Teaching Assistants Needed For CCJS 320

Image result for forensicsProfessor Mauriello has several openings for Teaching Assistants (TA) for CCJS 320 this upcoming Summer 2019 and Fall 2019 semesters.  The following sections are in need of a TA:

  • Summer Session II - Mondays 6:00 PM - 8:45 PM
  • Fall 2019 section 0201 - Mondays 2:30 PM - 5:15PM
  • Fall 2019 section 0301 - Mondays 6:00 PM - 8:45 PM

The TA must be able to arrive in the lab one hour before the section begins and hold office hours a minimum of once a week for two hours.

To be eligible, you must have successfully taken CCJS 320 and received an A- or higher and have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.20. If you are interested in becoming a TA for CCJS320, please contact Professor Mauriello ASAP at tmauriel@umd.edu. 

Maryland Parent & Family Association Student Scholarship - Applications Due May 10

Image result for maryland parent and family association umdApplications are being accepted for the Maryland Parent & Family Association Student Scholarship Awards. The scholarships provide assistance to current undergraduate students in good standing who may be unable to continue their education at the University due to extenuating personal or family financial circumstances. 

A minimum of 15 scholarships will be awarded for the 2019-2020 academic year.  Scholarships of up to $2,000 available for the 2019-2020.

U.S. Census Bureau - Fall 2019 Internship Opportunity


The U.S. Census Bureau, Criminal Justice Branch is currently looking to fill their Fall 2018 internship program with several UMD students. This internship is unpaid, but can be used to obtain CCJS internship credit. More details on the internship can be found on the above flyer.
