This is an entry-level clerical position performing case processing duties and responsibilities daily in the Circuit Court. This position enters and dockets all filings for criminal cases, issues appropriate instruments, and provides customer service and information to the public and court related agencies. Performs referral and case management duties and maintains criminal case files according to applicable statutes and the Maryland Rules of Procedures. Performs other duties needed outside of assigned responsibilities to help any office and the court to achieve its goal and aid in the improvement and success of the court.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Files and enters all pleadings, orders, and courtroom docket entries into the computer-based docket system. Enters court files utilizing the correct codes and the correct docketing language. Interprets court orders to determine appropriate action to be taken and executes that action. Maintains accuracy of information in the court files and in the electronic data-base system by updating changed information as needed such as attorney appearances, defendant's address, amendments to the charges, case status and dispositions.
Issues bench warrants, criminal commitments, writs, summonses, subpoenas, bond forfeiture notices, body attachments, victim notification forms, and all other necessary forms, notices, and paperwork.
Provides customer service via the telephone, mail, or in person relating to criminal cases such as rush working of pleadings, answering inquires, and issuing certified copies of pleadings and orders. Serves as the liaison between the Court and the Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement and correctional agencies.
Initiates New Suits procedures for new cases resulting from an indictment, information, or District Court appeal or jury demand. Creates new database information, establishes court files and case numbers, and issues initial paperwork. Assigns all cases a track designation in accordance with Differential Case Management policies.
Directs/refers cases to proper authorities for action as warranted. Reports case information, outstanding warrants, and dispositions to state agencies such as the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration.
Collects monies at the front counter and operates the cash register/computer. Endorses checks for deposit, maintains integrity, safeguards monies, closes-out register, and delivers monies and receipts to the finance department.
Seals case files pursuant to court orders and maintains sealed files in a confidential and safeguarded manner. Processes and transfers criminal cases to other courts and remands dismissed appeals to the District Court.
