Positions in this class are primarily assigned to the local school to assist the administration maintain a safe and secure learning environment for the school community. Under the general supervision of the security team leader, assists in screening visitor access to school facilities, maintaining student class attendance, and other responsibilities related to school security operations. Receives guidance and assistance from the security team leader and/or cluster security coordinator on the more difficult or unusual situations. Security assistants may be assigned under the direct supervision of the Department of Systemwide Safety and Emergency Management to assist cluster security coordinators in providing school-based security/safety services and emergency preparedness readiness. Physical Demands: Sufficient physical strength to intervene in fights and physically restrain persons; stamina to spend long periods of time walking and standing and to complete security patrol duties. Ability to patrol outdoors in inclement and extreme weather conditions. Special Requirements: Required to work flexible hours, including weekends, as assigned by the principal, security team leader, or cluster security coordinator to provide maximum security coverage. Required to occasionally work overtime. Required to wear the designated security uniforms. Use of own transportation may be required to travel to multiple locations as necessary (with mileage reimbursement in accordance with MCPS practices/processes).
