The Delaware State Parks Internship Program provides opportunities for qualified students and career-focused graduates to apply learned theory and experience to practical situations and to observe an organization first-hand. A quality field experience facilitates and enhances educational and vocational processes. The Delaware State Parks Internship Program is a training program that provides practical work experience and valuable training in the many and varied careers in the state park system. Interns in the program engage in education, management, administration, and environmental stewardship activities to increase and promote the environmental awareness of our visitors.

Interns apply for a specific position and are assigned to a specific site with a field expert who will mentor and supervise the intern’s activities. Summer 2021 internship w/ Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights

The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights is currently accepting applications for their Summer 2021 Undergraduate/Recent Graduate Volunteer Internship Program. Although assignments for each intern vary, most students are asked to draft documents, track news, and policy changes, write legal research memoranda, conduct factual investigations, participate in conference calls, and complete some administrative work. 2021 Criminal Law Internship Opportunity w/ Military Commissions Defense Organization

The Military Commissions Defense Organization (MCDO), a branch of the Department of Defense, is in search of one or more investigative interns for the Summer and Fall 2021 semesters. Interns will spend at least 6 weeks partnering directly with members of a defense team to complete various investigative tasks, advocate for a Guantanamo Bay detainee, and assist with establishing a legal precedent.

The investigative internship at the MCDO provides undergraduate and graduate students with the fundamental investigative techniques and the relevant criminal law knowledge needed to assist Attorneys. The Internship begins with a training session that orients the intern to MCDO, case history and team dynamics. In the second week, the Investigative Interns are assigned projects and will be responsible for completion of the investigative tasks assigned. Investigative Interns will be assigned to work with the investigative unit, attorneys, and other members of the team.

To perform this job successfully, an intern must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Persons with disabilities must be able to perform these duties with or without reasonable accommodation(s).   • Locate and interview witnesses and take detailed witness statements.
    • Under Defense Team supervision and/or with team investigator accompanying.
  • Perform extensive criminal background checks, with the use and assistance of resources provided by MCDO or self.
  • Draft and File FOIAS.
  • Prepare courtroom exhibits.
  • Write reports regarding investigative tasks; assist with case development and generally assist the assigned attorney(s) out of the courtroom.

Investigative Interns will be given clerical duties, but some of their work will be performed in the community. This is a non-paid internship, but interns will be able to obtain and retain a Security clearance within one year of departure from the internship.

Summer 2021 internship w/ Justice Policy Institute

The Justice Policy Institute (JPI) seeks self-motivated interns with demonstrated investment in the field who are interested in gaining experience in the practical application of criminal justice and juvenile justice reform by participating in all aspects of JPI’s work, including research, communications, and organizing. Internships will be structured around the development of one or more work products that will support JPI's strategic initiatives.  This work may include: 

  • Developing research proposals
  • Assisting with and/or authoring research materials
  • Gathering and analyzing data
  • Creating written, video, or audio material for JPI’s digital media platforms
  • Scanning news sources and compiling a daily news digest
  • Participating in and developing materials for state-based strategy meetings 

Interest in justice reform is critical and familiarity with these issues is very helpful. Selected candidates will receive hands-on experience conducting research, analyzing policy, communicating across an array of platforms, and working closely with other organizations to advocate for reform at an organization with a proven record of effectively using research, communications, and organizing to promote social change. In addition to internship activities, interns will be able to attend justice reform related briefings, hearings, and other events around D.C. to increase their knowledge and network with other justice reform experts in the field.

ACES Minor Accepting Applications

The ACES (Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students) Minor is accepting applications for the Fall
2021 semester! 

The ACES Minor is a 16-credit academic minor open to students of all majors. Students gain practical skills in cybersecurity through technical and non-technical coursework, group projects, internships and research opportunities. This curriculum is bolstered by regular interactions with cybersecurity industry leaders both in the private and public sector who serve as mentors and professional networks for ACES Minor students.

Wilson Center Undergraduate Summer 2021 Internship


The Wilson Center for Science at Justice at Duke University is offering multiple paid, remote research internships for Summer 2021. You can read more about their work on their website.

The internship will run from May 31 until July 31, 2021) start and end dates are flexible for other commitments). Interns will assist in the Center’s research efforts and projects, on topics such as: bail and pretrial, juror decision-making, eyewitness research, perceptions of forensic evidence, fines and fees, plea-bargaining, and policing. Research assistants are trained to complete a range of tasks including assisting in empirical data collection and processing, literature review, legal research, and more. Interns will also be expected to partake in weekly lab meetings and seminars. In addition to gaining skills relevant to criminal justice work, as an intern at the Wilson Center you will learn about the research relevant to policing, forensic science protocols, jury decision making, and other research topics relevant to the legal system. You will also learn more about how the Wilson Center engages with current issues in criminal justice by applying our research to issues and events as they occur in real time.

Interns will be expected to work 40 hours a week for $13.50 an hour. Interns can expect to acquire skills relevant to empirical social science research and legal research, including identifying research questions, finding and reviewing literature, creating research materials, working with data, and writing on empirical and non-empirical topics.

  2. cover letter expressing why they are interested in working at the Wilson Center (maximum of 2 pages, single spaced).

Applicants need not have any specific skills to apply, but those with an interest in graduate school or law school, experience with criminal justice topics, and/or data are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will demonstrate an interest in data-driven criminal justice reform and long-term goals (career or otherwise) in using the experience of the internship. Previous experience with criminal justice topics and research skills, including course work, volunteer experience, research experience, etc., is desirable.

DHS Student Hire Internship Program for Procurement Professionals (Fall 2021 & Spring 2022 Grads)


The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is seeking candidates to participate in the Student Hire Internship Program (SHIP) for Procurement Professionals. Internships are located in the DHS Office of the Chief Procurement Officer (OCPO) in Washington, DC. This office is responsible for providing procurement and acquisition management services throughout DHS. 

The program offers current students in relevant educational programs internships in DHS procurement offices during the period before graduation. Student interns must be available for one 10-week full-time (40 hours per week, 400 hours total) on-site internship period between June 6, 2021 – August 14, 2021. Interns must also be enrolled as students and available to work part-time (16 hours per week) until graduation in Fall 2021 or Spring 2022 if offered the opportunity to extend their internships. Interns who successfully complete at least 640 internship hours and meet other conditions including graduation and eligibility for a GS-1102-07 Contracting Series position* may be converted from part-time interns to full-time positions in the DHS Acquisition Professional Career Program (APCP) for recent graduates. Extensions or conversions are not implied or guaranteed at any time for any interns. Interns are paid at the GS-04 level for Washington, DC.
