Paralegal positions w/ State’s Attorney’s Office for Anne Arundel County

The State’s Attorney’s Office for Anne Arundel County is seeking paralegals with excellent time management skills and attention to detail for the new Body Worn Camera Review Unit.

Essential Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Receive, sort and review Body Worn Camera (BWC) footage from local police departments
  • Prepare BWC footage for use by Assistant State’s Attorneys at trial and for release as discovery
  • Manage, maintain and copy digital files as needed

Data Fellowship at Death Penalty Information Center

The Death Penalty Information Center (DPIC) in Washington, D.C., seeks interested candidates for a year-long Data Fellowship running from September 2021 to September 2022. The Center is a non-profit organization serving the media and the public with analysis and information on capital punishment. DPIC promotes informed discussion of the death penalty by preparing in-depth reports, conducting briefings for journalists, and serving as a resource to those working on this issue. The Data Fellow is the point person for managing DPIC’s data on death sentences and other aspects of capital punishment, and plays a key role in creating DPIC’s data visualizations.

DPIC is looking for someone with strong data analysis skills, the ability to create compelling data visualizations, an interest in the criminal legal system, and a strong commitment to social justice and racial equity. This one-year position is great for someone starting their career, or considering applying to graduate school in the near future.

The key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Managing DPIC’s database of death sentences, including researching cases and making corrections and updates
  • Analyzing data and producing written content for DPIC reports, webpages, and other projects
  • Creating and maintaining data visualizations (using Tableau, Adobe Illustrator, and other data-visualization tools where applicable) for use on DPIC’s website and other materials
  • Working with staff and interns to research data on new death sentences, executions, and other aspects of capital punishment
  • Interfacing with other researchers working on death-penalty issues, sharing and gathering data where appropriate
  • Assisting DPIC staff with managing media and other information requests

Public Policy Internship w/ ACLU-MD


The American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland (ACLU-MD) seeks a highly motivated student passionate about race equity, civil rights and civil liberties for their Public Policy internship program during the Summer and/or Fall 2021 terms. This internship will be conducted remotely. The ACLU-MD is the Maryland state affiliate office of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

The Public Policy Department works with local and statewide leaders to realize the promise of our Constitution and Bill of Rights by advocating to reform laws and policies around the criminal justice system, public safety, education, immigrants’ rights, voting rights, and civil rights and liberties for all Marylanders. The intern will support legislative advocacy efforts in the Maryland General Assembly and local governmental bodies. The position will also work closely with the organization’s other departments, external publics and may also occasionally interface with the ACLU National Office.

Duties and functions may include:
  • Researching and analyzing laws, data, policies, and practices;
  • Helping draft and deliver testimony for bill hearings;
  • Attending legislative briefings and hearings;
  • Scheduling and facilitating meetings with legislators, partner organizations, and other stakeholders;
  • Attending departmental meetings;
  • Providing additional administrative assistance and administrative tasks; and

  • Interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the legislative process by working alongside the Public Policy team. Transform Maryland internship for Summer 2021


The new Transform Maryland internship is currently accepting applications for the Summer 2021 term. The
Transform Maryland initiative will support two student teams for 10 weeks as they work on real-world challenges while providing the University with a student perspective on various administrative and academic services. More information can be found on this program overview sheet.

The 20-hour/week virtual experience includes a $3,600 stipend for each student.  Teams will be led by full-time UMD staff volunteers responsible for guiding the team through the project, teaching consultation principles and techniques, and coaching the students through process stages.
