The job of Special Agent offers qualified men and women a challenging and fulfilling career. The U.S. Secret Service recruits' personnel of the highest caliber to carry out its integrated missions of investigation and protection. While the executive protection mission is known worldwide, the U.S. Secret Service’s investigative mission continues to grow due to developments in technology. Special Agents investigate violations of laws relating to financial crimes such as credit card and access device fraud, as well as computer-based attacks on the nation’s banking and telecommunications. In the field of protection Secret Service Special Agents develop and implement innovative strategies to mitigate threats to our nation’s leaders.


The U.S. Secret Service is actively recruiting recent college graduates who meet the following criteria:

  • Attained Superior Academic Achievement (3.0 or higher) while in college
  • Currently have no to little professional work experience; however, possess quantifiable experience for the position gained through non-career activities
  • Able to successfully pass the application process


Recruiting for the following field offices only:

  • Atlanta Field Office
  • Chicago Field Office
  • Houston Field Office
  • Los Angeles Field Office
  • New York Field Office
  • Washington Field Office

You are not guaranteed your preferred post of duty. Your initial post of duty will be determined at the time of the final job offer and will be based on the operational needs of the US Secret Service. You must reside within a 50-mile radius of desired location upon graduation of training.


Interested candidates in their last semester of a college program are encouraged to begin the application process for STAR. A final transcript from an accredited school confirming degree conferral and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required prior to a final job offer.

2025 Grad Fair

10:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. in the University Book Center

The University Book Center will host a Graduation Fair on March 4 and 5, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. The event will provide an opportunity to purchase regalia, order announcements, and class rings. Special pricing on diploma frames. Other services include custom doctoral regalia fittings, professional photography, and a young alumni travel agency. The event will include giveaways, raffles, and light fare.

2025 BSOS Commencement Student Speaker Application

Are you interested in being a speaker at commencement? Each year, the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences selects a student to deliver a 4 - 5 minute speech at each of our commencement ceremonies. Therefore, we are looking for two enthusiastic student speakers who have a unique story and a message to share with their graduating class.

Do you have a special story to share about your journey at the University of Maryland? As you prepare for life after graduation, what reflections would you like to share with your fellow graduates? 

The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences will select a deserving student to deliver a 4 to 5 minute speech at a 2024 BSOS Commencement Ceremony. The selected student will not only speak at one of the 2024 BSOS Commencement Ceremonies, but will also play a role in the student processional, sit onstage with Dean Susan Rivera and esteemed leadership and faculty of BSOS, and lead the graduates' turning of the tassel.

Your formal BSOS Commencement Ceremony will be on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, where each student will be individually recognized on stage.
