Participate in Intern For A Day - Application Now Open


Intern for a Day connects undergraduate UMD students with alumni, parents, employers and community partners for one day job shadowing experiences.

The list of participating fall 2017 hosts is now available here!

In order to receive an application to participate in Intern for a Day, students must attend an informative, 30-minute orientation session that will cover the application process, how students will be matched with a host, best practices when shadowing the host on-site and how to show appreciation to the host after the experience.

Fall 2017 Intern for a Day Orientation Dates (Total of 8 Sessions Available): 
All orientations take place in the University Career Center & The President's Promise at 3100 Hornbake Library, South Wing

As you prepare to embark on your next journey after graduating from the University of Maryland, what reflections would you share with your fellow graduates?

The selected student speaker will get to deliver his/her message to the 2,000 students, faculty, and guests at the BSOS Commencement Ceremony. The student speaker will play a prominent role in the procession into the Xfinity Center. During the BSOS Commencement Ceremony, the student speaker will get to sit on stage with the Dean Gregory Ball and will receive reserved special seating for family and guests.

Eligibility
  • Completed at least 60 credits at the University of Maryland, College Park
  • A GPA of 3.50 or higher
  • Graduated in Summer 2017 or Fall 2017

FBI Workshop: Internship Overview and Resume/Interviewing Skills - TONIGHT

Join Alpha Phi Sigma - Applications Currently Accepted

Alpha Phi Sigma recognizes academic excellence of Undergraduate and Graduate students of Criminal Justice, as well as Juris Doctorate students.  The goals of Alpha Phi Sigma are to honor and promote academic excellence, community service, educational leadership and unity (http://www.alphaphisigma.org/).  The CCJS staff advisor for Alpha Phi Sigma is Nicole Jackson

Membership Requirements:
Membership is open to CCJS majors who have completed at least 40 total credits with at least 12 credits in CCJS courses. Undergraduate Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and a minimum CCJS major grade point average of a 3.40. 

Justice, Government & Law Networking Night


Mark your calendars, the CCJS department will hold its annual networking event on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.  Students in attendance will… 
  • make connections in their field of interest; 
  • learn how to network and job search effectively in Washington, D.C.; 
  • market their skills and potentially identify internship and job openings.

"Career Night" hosted by Maryland State Police




Maryland State Police will host its first ever "Career Night" in western Maryland on Thursday, October 5th from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  This event will be sure to please every student with an interest in National SecurityPublic Safety and Emergency Services. Both local and federal law enforcement agencies will be in attendance, as well as several military branches. 

Careers in Community Organizing for Social Justice - Online Info Session

Image result for Direct Action & Research Training (DART) CenterThe Direct Action & Research Training (DART) Center will hold an online information session on Tuesday, September 26 at 7:00 PM to discuss careers in community organizing with UMD students and alumni interested in uniting congregations and working for social, economic and racial justice.  The DART Center, a network of community organizations working to address social and economic justice issues in 22 cities across the country.
