2020 Maryland Summer Scholars Program - Application Open

Image result for umdThe Maryland Summer Scholars Program (MSS) provides opportunities for University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) undergraduates to spend much of the summer working closely with faculty mentors on ambitious research, scholarly, or artistic projects. The MSS program provides awards of $3,000 to approximately 25-30 undergraduates each summer.

Many Summer Scholars expand their summer research into an independent study or honors thesis project the following fall semester, and find that their research experience helps distinguish their applications for graduate study, fellowships, internships, employment and other competitive opportunities.

Apply today for BSOS Winter/Spring 2020 Undergraduate Experience Funds!

These funds assist undergraduate BSOS majors engaged in experiential learning outside the classroom, such as unpaid internships, research, service learning, and professional or academic conferences. The funds are intended to help offset expenses related to activities like travel/transportation expenses, professional attire, and other opportunity costs (for example: the need to give up a part-time paid job in order to take an unpaid internship).

If you are a BSOS student with financial need that is preventing you from taking advantage of an unpaid opportunity, BSOS encourages you to apply for BSOS Undergraduate Experience Funds.

He represents and advises businesses, individuals, will and trust beneficiaries, and Trustees, Executors, and other fiduciaries. He currently serves as the Treasurer of the Montgomery County Bar Association and serves on the Executive Committee of the Montgomery County Inn of Court. African Studies Minor Kickoff


The African-American Studies Department cordially invites you to its African Studies Minor Kickoff Event. AASD is hosting a talk by Howard University Professor Jean-Michel Mabeko-Tali on Monday, November 18 at 6:00 PM in 2102 Shoemaker. There will be a short talk, discussion and Q and A session. This event will also introduce the new African Studies Minor.  The African Studies Minor focuses on the history, culture, politics, and economics of the peoples who populate the continent of Africa. As an interdisciplinary field of study, the minor will provide students with an understanding of the historical and cultural contexts that have and continue to shape political, economic and social development in Africa.  

The Weight of Honor Film Screening & Panel Discussion


Join Veteran Student Life, in partnership with the George Washington University Military & Veteran Services, in a film screening of THE WEIGHT OF HONOR — the first comprehensive documentary to chronicle the lives of families caring for their catastrophically wounded returning from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Our mentors go out to local PGCPS elementary school for three hours twice a week to aid students in literacy or mathematics, or to guide parent education.
