PAID Summer Research position with PGPD

The Police Foundation is looking a few undergraduate students to participate in Ride Alongs with the Prince George's County Police Department. The project will explore the impact of body-worn cameras on victim and witness experiences with PGPD. All ride-alongs will take place during shift two (3:30pm-11:30pm) and will require diligent qualitative note taking. 

Interested students should be respectful, independent, self-motivated, and show good judgement. Student who have taken CCJS300 are preferred. Since the ride-alongs will take place throughout the county, it is ask that all RAs have their own mode of transportation. Students will be paid $15/hour and will start at the beginning of July.

Fall 2018 internship opportunity: Arlington County Police Department

Arlington County Police Department is currently looking to fill the Investigative Assistant Internship. Applicants must be enrolled in a program that will continue to Spring 2019 in order to participate in. This means that graduating seniors or last semester graduate students are ineligible unless they have been accepted to a graduate program.

Applications for the Fall 2018 semester are due Sunday, July 1. Applications submitted after that deadline will not be accepted. 

Criminal Justice Research and Evaluation - Summer 2018 Internship with ICF

The Justice and Community Development (JCD) Research and Evaluation Team has a broad portfolio of projects focusing on criminal justice practices and policies.  The team is seeking a summer intern to work on multiple projects with topics ranging from victim services, juvenile justice, human trafficking, corrections, and law enforcement.  With the supervision of more experienced researchers, the intern will be responsible for assisting in the performance of social science research and evaluation of training and technical assistance by gathering literature and documents for review, transcribing interviews, qualitatively coding interview transcripts, coordinating interviews/meetings, and helping to prepare material for inclusion in reports. As a summer intern, you will apply your academic knowledge, gain exposure to major projects surrounding the improvement of federal, state and local juvenile justice and child welfare systems, and interact with a variety of experts in juvenile justice, human trafficking, victim services, child welfare, and related fields. Interns at ICF often return after graduation to take positions within our consulting practice or enroll in outstanding graduate programs around the country.  

The position is located at ICF's headquarters in Fairfax, VA.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform background research on specified topics and synthesize material in the form of annotated bibliographies and literature reviews.
• Support training and technical assistance activities for federal juvenile justice, human trafficking, victims of crime, and/or child welfare programs and initiatives.
• Support cleaning and validating data using statistical analysis software such as SPSS, Stata, or SAS.
• Transcribe and code qualitative data.
• Analyze primary and secondary data using basic statistical methods (e.g., descriptives).
• Coordinate logistics and assist with conferences/meeting planning (e.g., teleconferences and virtual meetings).

 

Basic Qualifications:

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in criminal justice, sociology, statistics, economics, social work,  public policy, or related field with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Introductory knowledge of social science research and methods.
• Proficient in MS applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Interest in criminal and juvenile justice topics.

Berwyn Heights Maryland Police Internship

Berwyn Heights Maryland Police Department is currently seeking interns for the Fall 2018 semester. The program requires between 10-20 hours each week from interns, with flexible scheduling to accommodate student schedules. Hours must be completed between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. This internship will help students learn about the administrative side of a police department, as well as the every day routine of police officers. Students will get an opportunity to shadow the Chief of Police and go on ride-alongs with the Officers.
