The typical duties of a police officer include: enforcing the criminal and traffic laws of the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County, and the Code of the Town of Cheverly, problem solving, report writing, courtroom presentation, and providing effective service to citizens. In exchange for these duties, police officers are offered a competitive salary and excellent benefits. Shift work is required of all department employees.

Volunteer with the Petey Greene Program

We are looking for undergraduate and graduate student volunteers to tutor GED students once weekly in one of 7 correctional facilities.

Howard County Police Department Info Session

The Howard County Police Department is hosting an information sharing event to offer insight on the steps to becoming a police officer or police cadet in Howard County.

- An overview of the requirements, disqualifications, and hiring process
- An overview of the physical ability test to include tips and suggested exercises to improve an individual’s performance on the physical ability test
- A general Question & Answer session to conclude the event

The Direct Action & Research Training (DART) Center will hold an online information session on Thursday, December 6 at 6:00 PM EST to discuss careers in community organizing with UMD students and alumni interested in uniting congregations and working for social, economic and racial justice.

DART hires and trains organizers to build organizations that have successfully addressed issues including:
* Plugging the school-to-prison pipeline
* Reining in predatory lending practices
* Expanding access to primary health and dental care
* Prioritizing funding for affordable housing and job training
* Fighting for immigrants' rights
* Police accountability

Positions start January 14, 2019 in Columbus, OH, Charlottesville, VA, Lexington, KY, St. Petersburg and Jacksonville, FL. 

Positions start August 12, 2019 in Lexington, KY, Louisville, KY, Columbus, OH, Richmond, VA, Charlottesville, VA, Columbia, SC, St. Petersburg, Tampa, West Palm Beach, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach and Fort Myers, FL.

Army ROTC Branch Day


The University of Maryland Army ROTC Battalion will be conducting a Branch Day on December 6, 2018. Branch Day is a career fair where the ROTC Cadets will get to explore the different branches of the Army. Since not all Cadets commission into active duty, Army ROTC has also invited federal agencies to participate (i.e. FBI, Secret Service, etc.).
