The OIG Investigative Student Service Internship provides college students with the unique opportunity to work alongside criminal investigators, forensic auditors, analytical staff, and attorneys as we conduct criminal, civil, and administrative investigations into fraud, waste, and abuse related to OPM programs and operations. Your participation in the OIG Investigative Student Service Internship program will provide you the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and professional experience.
As an Investigative Student Service Intern, students will work in a non-enforcement capacity alongside our investigative staff. Activities would include:

- Interview complainants and document the results
- Review and enter case leads and notifications into the investigative tracking system
- Identify financial exposure related to allegations and recognize potential harm to OPM beneficiaries
- Collect and analyze data and information
- Perform database research to develop investigative leads
- Prepare case activity reports
- Conduct open source research
- Analyze and summarize complex information
- Prepare status briefings for supervisors, criminal investigators, investigators, forensic auditors, and analytical staff
