The Fairfax County Sheriff's Office is seeking dedicated professionals to support the daily operations of the agency under sworn supervision as a Control Booth Operator. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the security and efficiency of the Fairfax County Courthouse and Adult Detention Center (ADC), including coordinating and facilitating response of first responders to emergency situations. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring personnel, visitors, and inmates; 
  • Managing courtroom and security passage access and responding to calls via telephone and radio; 
  • Effectively communicating security incidents and sharing information with sworn personnel; 
  • Being proficient and current with policies and standard operating procedures; 
  • Possessing the ability to operate a computer-aided dispatch console, controls, and radio frequencies.

This posting will fill multiple positions within the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office. Assignments may vary based on operational needs, requiring adherence to established protocols and procedures.

*Schedule: The incumbent may be assigned to multiple types of shifts (shift hours are subject to change).  Court hours are 8-hour shifts that work Monday-Friday, equal to 80 hours per two-week pay period; Squad schedules are 12.5-hour shifts that work 15 days per month with workdays alternating weekly, equal to 87.5 hours per two-week pay period, to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. (Day shift from 6:30 am - 7:00 pm and night shift from 6:30 pm to 7:00 am).

Illustrative Duties

  • Monitor facility security systems, cameras and alarms to maintain secure environment;
  • Control and verify all access to secure areas through Inet system and ID verification protocols;
  • Coordinate communications between staff, public safety agencies and emergency services via radio and other channels;
  • Access and query criminal databases (VCIN/NCIC) as needed;
  • Inspect and report on security equipment functionality;
  • Provide professional customer service and approved information to public inquiries;
  • Document and relay critical information to appropriate personnel;
  • Manage inventory and storage of controlled items;
  • Enforce security protocols to prevent unauthorized access or escapes.
