The Arlington County Sheriff Office is currently seeking a Pretrial Officer. The Pretrial Officer’s primary responsibility is to utilize resources to gain conformity and compliance of individuals placed on the Supervised Release Program (Pretrial). This employee is accountable for collecting data, conducting investigations, and submitting reports for the Judicial Officer’s (Judge) review before it is determined an individual is released under supervision while final disposition of their case is being adjudicated. This employee works with clients to maintain the court-ordered conditions set for their release but also notifies the court of violations during their supervision.
Specific duties include:
- Conducting interviews of criminal defendants arrested on state and/or local warrants in the ACDF;
- Conducting risk assessments using the VPRAI of jailed defendants;
- Transferring information from the defendant interviews to the VA PRAXIS and VPRAI software program;
- Accessing and entering results of first appearance and other confidential data into the Virginia Pretrial Community Corrections database (PTCC);
- Preparing a pretrial investigation Court Report with recommendations to assist courts in decision making related to granting or reconsidering bail;
- Running criminal history checks of active Pretrial Release defendants as needed;
- Preparing progress letters for the Sheriff and Judges and conducting alcohol and drug screening on program participants as needed;
- Performing record checks and obtaining background information as requested by the Courts;
- Maintaining confidential criminal histories and inmate record files using computers and other sources; and/or completing necessary court paperwork and verifying defendant's information;
- Seeking capias or show cause order when defendants fail to comply with the conditions of bail or supervision as needed; and
- Testifying in court as needed.
May perform other related tasks as required.
