Throughout their careers, Uniformed Division Officers are entrusted with a variety of protective assignments. Their duties include:
- Safeguarding the White House complex, the Vice President's residence, and other designated facilities, as well as providing security for foreign missions and embassies.
- Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
- Enforcing mandated protective duties as outlined under Title 18, United Sates Code, Section 3056A.

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) is a specialized unit within the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division that provides full-time tactical support to the Presidential Protective Division. On order, ERT will also provide tactical support to designated protectees, protected venues, and National Special Security Events. For more information about the ERT position, click here.
IMPORTANT: If you are unable to successfully complete the specialty team selection school or the specialty basic school required for the ERT position, you will have an opportunity to remain with the Uniformed Division in a non-tactical role.
