This is a term position for up to two years. Employees will be required to be enrolled in an accredited college program as a full-time student and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher each semester as a Cadet.
This position is intended to provide an introduction to and on-the-job training in various elementary aspects of the police career field and simultaneous enrollment in a college curriculum. Employee will be responsible for performing limited, training level assignments in various areas of police work not requiring police authority. This training and continuous enrollment in a college curriculum are designed to provide MCPD with applicants qualified to compete for appointment as a Police Officer Candidate. Employees will learn numerous facts and procedures about police work and maintain continuous progress toward earning an Associate of Arts or Bachelor's degree. Duties may include such things as responding to questions and requests for information; receiving and issuing uniforms and equipment; taking fingerprints; receiving and storing evidence; assisting with enforcement activities; performing analysis and preparing reports; and performing other work as assigned. Employees will rotate through various assignments on a regular basis. Employees will work 20 hours per week from September through May with flexible hours to accommodate class schedules. Experience speaking and/or writing a second language in addition to English and residency in the National Capital Region is a bonus.
This is a part time position. Cadets will be receiving $15.81 per hour for 20 hours per week.
