UMB Paid Research Opportunity for Fall 2018/Spring 2019


The University of Maryland, Baltimore is looking for an undergraduate research assistant for the Fall/Spring semester. This position is a paid research opportunity, assisting with an on-going clinical trial research program at the University of Maryland Methadone Treatment Program Center, in Baltimore. 

The RA's will be responsible for assisting the Principle Investigator and the Research Coordinator with the required duties for all aspects of back-end data organization and regulatory (IRB) affairs. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Helping maintain a database
  • Creating data collection instruments in RedCAP
  • Ensuring compliance in accordance with UMB IRB standards
  • Assessing IRB protocol modifications. 
Additionally, this person will assist in data collection by directly interacting with patients enrolled in the study. The candidate’s assistance may also be solicited for other new research programs in the clinic. 

It is anticipated that this person will be called on an as-needed basis for a minimum of 12-15 hours of duty per week. Gilman Study Abroad Scholarship Info Session and Student Panel

You may be eligible to apply for the US State Department’s Gilman Scholarship, which provides up to $5,000. Last year 30 Maryland students won Gilman Scholarships worth a total of $107,550!

FBI Summer 2019 Honors Internship - Application Opens Aug 28

Image result for fbiThe application for the Summer 2019 FBI Honor's Internship will open up tomorrow, August 28, 2018 until Friday, October 14, 2018.  Please visit FBIJOBS.gov, then click on "Students" towards the top of the page, followed by  "Undergrad Students" for the application and requirements.

Here are some notes and tips for your application:

  • Students can apply their Freshman year and beyond as long as they will be enrolled in school full-time in Fall 2019.  Seniors graduating May 2019 and not immediately attending graduate school in Fall 2019, will not qualify for the Summer 2019 internship
  • Students must have a 3.0 GPA.  (Freshman will have to provide SAT/ACT scores and high school transcripts)
  • Students must be able to pass the FBI background - students must review the restrictions prior to applying.  If students fail the FBI polygraph, they will not be eligible for future FBI positions
  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (dual citizenship is fine).  Unfortunately Legal Resident Aliens, Permanent Residents or students in the US on Student Visas are not eligible
  • Applicants will be asked to select 3 offices where they would like to work.  Headquarters has the most available positions and selecting headquarters can significantly increase a students ability to be placed
  • Students should include everything on their resume, there is no limit on length! 
    • Include your high school and high school activities on the resume
    • Don't just state your duties, write in detail about your duties (e.g. promotions, raises, employee of the month, work busier shifts, train others, resolved issue, work adopted their suggestion for something, increased profits, lowered loses, ran fun run and got more donations or runners than previously etc.)
    • Show your leadership skills/positions (e.g. school organization, jobs, sports, church, volunteering etc.)
    • Applicants should include the school name, expected graduation date, major and minors, GPA ,and if they're on Scholarship towards the top of their resume

U.S. Marshals Internship - Fall 2018

The U.S. Marshals Service is currently seeking interns for the Fall 2018 semester. The internship program provides students interested in federal law enforcement an opportunity to obtain educational work experience and an understanding of the role of the U.S. Marshals Service in the justice system. This internship is located in Washington, D.C. at the E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse located at 333 Constitution Avenue, NW, Suite 1500. 

Duties:
  • Preparing court schedules
  • Organizing legal documents
  • Learning about the many functions of the U.S. Marshal Service
  • Communicating with Deputy U.S. Marshals along with court staff
  • General clerical duties

Qualifications: 
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university. 
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree; preferred degree programs are criminal justice, criminology, political science, psychology, public administration, sociology, and social science. 
To apply, submit the following documents: a current resume; a cover letter describing future career goals and interest in the U.S. Marshals Service; and an unofficial academic transcript. The documents may be submitted by email to Tomeko.bryant@usdoj.gov or to the other Deputy U.S. Marshals copied with this email. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, if selected, the students will have to submit to a background check and submit fingerprints and should anticipate a minimum waiting time of several weeks before they would be cleared to begin.
