The CCJS Department is now accepting applications for Student Speaker at this year's May 2020 departmental commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 21 at 9:00 AM in Reckord Armory. One student will deliver a 4-5 minute speech at commencement. The theme of the speech is entirely up to the student, but must speak to all CCJS graduates. The selected student speaker will get to deliver his/her message to 2,000+ students, faculty, and guests at the CCJS Commencement Ceremony. During the ceremony, the student speaker will get to sit on stage with esteemed CCJS faculty and a BSOS Dean.
Interested students who would like to apply must meet the following criteria:
- Completed at least 60 credits at the University of Maryland, College Park by the end of the Spring 2020 semester
- A minimum GPA of 3.50
- Graduating in May 2020 - must be a student in the current semester
- Why do you want to be the graduation speaker?
- What qualifications and experiences do you have for speaking in front of a large audience?
- What is the message you would want to share with your fellow graduates, parents, faculty, staff and friends? Why?
All application materials are due to Diane Hou (dhou1@umd.edu) by 4:00 PM on Friday, March 13th, 2020. Applicants must email Diane with the subject line "CCJS Speaker 2020." Top candidates will have a panel interview in early to mid-April and will be required to submit a 2-3 minute video demonstration of their potential speech.
