Rawlings Undergraduate Leadership Fellows Program accepting applications
About the Program
Participation in the Rawlings Undergraduate Leadership Fellows Program empowers students to act by equipping them with the necessary skills, resources and support for leadership roles, while engaging in areas of cultural pluralism, advocacy and change. Fellows design and implement their own community action projects, take leadership courses, serve at an internship, and meet elected officials, community advocates and nonprofit leaders. Each Fellow’s experience in the program will be guided by his or her interest in a specific policy issue. The program continues the legacy of Howard Peters “Pete” Rawlings and the work he did as a Delegate in the State of Maryland.

CCJS Advising **limited hours**
In light of recent situations, the CCJS Advising office will physically be closed from Monday, March 16 to Friday, April 10. We will be working on the following schedule instead:
Monday, March 16 - Tuesday, March 24: CCJS Advising closed, no student advising
Wednesday, March 25 - Friday, March 27: email inquiries only
Monday, March 30 - Friday, April 10: email inquiries, phone appointments available

Spring 2020 withdrawal deadline EXTENDED
The deadline for students to drop a course with a “W” this Spring 2020 semester has been postponed from Friday, April 10, to Tuesday, May 12, 2020.

ACES Minor and Scholarship for Service Program -DEADLINE EXTENDED
The ACES Minor and the CyberCorps:Scholarship for Service (SFS) have opened applications for the Fall 2020 semester.
ACES Minor students will gain practical skills in cybersecurity through technical and non-technical coursework, group projects, internships and research opportunities.
The CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service (SFS) program, seeks to address cybersecurity education and workforce development. In partnership with the National Science Foundation, ACES provides scholarships for students, who will then go on to work for Federal, State, Local or Tribal government organizations.
Students can submit the application via the ACES website. Applications are due March 23, 2020.

Apply to be this year's student CCJS Commencement Speaker!
The CCJS Department is now accepting applications for Student Speaker at this year's May 2020 departmental commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 21 at 9:00 AM in Reckord Armory. One student will deliver a 4-5 minute speech at commencement. The theme of the speech is entirely up to the student, but must speak to all CCJS graduates. The selected student speaker will get to deliver his/her message to 2,000+ students, faculty, and guests at the CCJS Commencement Ceremony. During the ceremony, the student speaker will get to sit on stage with esteemed CCJS faculty and a BSOS Dean.
Interested students who would like to apply must meet the following criteria:
- Completed at least 60 credits at the University of Maryland, College Park by the end of the Spring 2020 semester
- A minimum GPA of 3.50
- Graduating in May 2020 - must be a student in the current semester
- Why do you want to be the graduation speaker?
- What qualifications and experiences do you have for speaking in front of a large audience?
- What is the message you would want to share with your fellow graduates, parents, faculty, staff and friends? Why?
All application materials are due to Diane Hou (dhou1@umd.edu) by 4:00 PM on Friday, March 13th, 2020. Applicants must email Diane with the subject line "CCJS Speaker 2020." Peer Advisor Positions Open in CCJS Advising
CCJS Advising is currently seeking a Peer Advisor for the Fall 2020 semester (with the possibility of continuing beyond). The Peer Advisor will be responsible for greeting students, answering general major questions, and secretarial duties within the CCJS Advising office. District Court Commissioner positions, Full-time
District Court Commissioners are judicial officers whose primary function includes reviewing Applications for Statement of Charges by the public and police for the filing of criminal charges in the District Court. A Criminal Summons or an Arrest Warrant may be issued based upon a finding of probable cause in the Application for Statement of Charges. A District Court Commissioner performs the following duties, but are not limited to: determining probable cause for charges on police on-view arrests of persons and thereafter determining pre-trial release for those arrested persons and accepting Bail Bond moneys and other forms of surety to secure the release of an incarcerated individual. When the Circuit and District Courts are closed, District Court Commissioners also serve in the capacity of the consideration of civil petitions for interim Peace Orders and interim Protective Orders.
