Temporary Pretrial Investigator position w/ City of Alexandria

The City of Alexandria is seeking to fill the temporary role of a Pretrial Investigator. This position is part of the Probation/Pretrial Job Family. Incumbents perform investigative and support work with regards to pretrial. Responsibilities may include conducting interviews with defendants; collecting and verifying background information; preparing reports outlining investigation and interview findings; and using applicable tools to assess defendants risk to the community.

This position is responsible for investigating and generating reports on defendants to assist in court decisions. It includes but is not limited to the following:

  1. Interviews defendants by telephone and/or through home visits to assess potential next steps; determine defendants to be interviewed.
  2.  Utilizes various databases to gather information on a defendant's criminal history, court proceedings, and/or any other court involvement; generates reports to assist courts in reaching a decision.
  3. Researches cases by reviewing appropriate paperwork, checking relevant history, and contacting relevant parties with questions/concerns.
  4. Maintains case records, interviews, and court documents by creating treatment progress reports, interview findings, investigation outlines, data entry of all reports
  5. Assist in determining risk, safety necessity of referral, progress, and/or counseling necessity for defendants using applicable tools and databases; determines if a drug/alcohol assessment or test is necessary or beneficial.
  6. Monitors daily activities to include: administering drug tests, utilizing electronic monitoring equipment, and recording daily enrollment counts.
  7. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
