PROJECT COORDINATOR, MOTHER’S OUTREACH NETWORK
Mother’s Outreach Network, Inc., based in Washington DC, is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that works to advance racial economic justice and family strength for mothers of color who are among the most marginalized, primarily Black mothers. MON’s mission is to support D.C. mothers in pushing for their families’ economic stability while navigating family separation through the child welfare/family regulation system or the criminal legal system. Centering its analysis in Critical Race Theory, MON uses movement-lawyering strategies that will build parents’ power to transform systems and that will aid in harm reduction against impacted constituents. MON does so through three primary program:
- The community engagement program, which includes know-your-rights workshops in law and civic activism, as well as mutual aid, community-driven research and the MotherUp Cash Pilot Project.
- The legal program, which provides representation, advice and referrals for mothers who are facing adverse administrative decisions that impede their economic security, with a focus on fair hearings before the DC Child and Family Services Agency; and
- The advocacy program, which seeks to transform income and child welfare/family regulation system policy at the local and federal level.
The Project Coordinator will split their time (90%) between the MotherUp Cash Pilot Project and (10%) on other projects
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Project Coordinator will report to the Executive Director, and will fulfill various duties and responsibilities related to the Pilot Project and to the Administrative Operations. This includes creating comprehensive action plans concerning resources, budgets and timeframes for Mother’s Outreach Network and for the MotherUp Pilot Project. They will perform various coordinating duties such as scheduling and risk management.
The following are additional duties and responsibilities that the Project Coordinator may be required to perform:
- Participate in Pilot design and evaluation meetings and propose improvements if necessary
- Evaluate potential problems and technical hitches and develop solutions
- Plan and manage team goals, project schedules and new information
- Supervise current projects and coordinate all team members to keep workflow on track
- Manage project-related paperwork by ensuring all necessary materials are current, properly filed and stored
- Regularly schedule and attend meetings between stakeholders, clients, employees and the Executive Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
PROJECT COORDINATOR SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
The successful Project Coordinator will have the following skills and qualifications:
- Experience with data collection and for cash pilot programs is a plus
- Familiarity with child welfare systems a plus
- Reside in or be knowledgeable about impacted communities in Wards 5, 6, 7 and 8
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently
- Demonstrated commitment to racial justice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills capable of maintaining strong relationships
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities
- Team-management and leadership skills
- Documentation management and ability to use project management tools
- Attention to details even under pressure
- Time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
SALARY EXPECTATIONS
The salary range of the Project Coordinator is $45,000 to $48,000 per year based on experience. A benefits package will be provided. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the position will remain open until filled.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Education required is a bachelor’s degree or relevant experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Word is required. Training on project management and development procedures is strongly preferred.
