The Metro College Intern Program — through the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority — is designed to cultivate future talent through paid internships, which offer increasing levels of work experience and professional development opportunities associated with the transit industry and Metro’s operational environment. The program runs approximately 12 weeks, typically June through August. All internships are based in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area.

Eligibility Qualifications for the Metro College Intern Program

  • Must be CURRENTLY enrolled in an accredited college or university, with the student, at minimum, being a rising college sophomore.
  • Major in course work aligned with the academic and functional requirements of the position for which the student has applied.
  • Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA. Additional departmental or functional requirements may apply per internship.
  • Graduate students are welcome to apply. 
  • Students must submit an official college transcript to verify eligibility for the Metro College Intern Program.
  • Students must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, including all student visas.
  • Students must live in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area while employed as an intern.

CCJS is offering a new course for the Fall 2022 semester.  Here is a brief description:

Prerequisites: CCJS100, CCJS105, and Declared CCJS Major
Course Meeting Day/Time: Tuesdays 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

CCJS318C will develop the student’s oral communication skills whether they are preparing to speak to one or one thousand.  It will increase and improve the skills of the experienced student speaker while providing an essential foundation for the beginner.   The course will include techniques for speaking with confidence, choosing the right audio-visual equipment and platforms, and how to satisfy the needs and expectations of an audience.   Proven presentation tools will be presented, demonstrated, and taught throughout the course, using criminal justice events, such as police-community presentations, briefings, debriefings, and courtroom testimony.

The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services seeks a Center of
Excellence (COE) intern for Fall 2022. The incumbent will work alongside the Law
Enforcement Coordinator to collaborate with various key stakeholders (e.g., local government,
law enforcement, public safety agencies, behavioral health agencies, and crisis service
providers), and support the implementation of Senate Bill 305 (2020) and Senate Bill 857
(2021). Primary functions of this position will include providing technical support to the COE’s committees, councils, trainings, workgroups, and meetings via stakeholder engagement, research, note-taking, and report writing. The COE intern will support the work of the Crisis Intervention Teams, Behavioral Health Authorities, Public Safety, and other agencies throughout the state. 

The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services seeks a Justice Reinvestment intern for Fall 2022 in our Criminal Justice division. You will work alongside the Director of Justice Reinvestment and collaborate with various external stakeholders to include the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Department of Health, Administrative Office of the Courts, Maryland State Commission on Criminal Sentencing Policy, local corrections, and other agencies involved in implementation of Justice Reinvestment legislation. Primary functions of this position will include supporting the implementation of the Justice Reinvestment Act (JRA) and the Justice Reinvestment Oversight Board, assisting with the reporting of performance measures to stakeholders, managing capacity building opportunities, and assisting in coordinating various Workgroup meetings.


The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services seeks a Criminal Justice Program intern for Fall 2022 in our Criminal Justice division. You will work alongside the Director of Public Safety Strategies and collaborate with various internal/external stakeholders to include local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, state’s attorney’s offices, heroin coordinators, and others involved in the implementation of Public Safety Strategies. Primary functions of this position will include operationally supporting the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN) initiative. MCIN is a criminal justice strategy, coordinated at the local, state, and federal levels targeting gangs, drugs, firearms and human trafficking. MCIN is particularly focused on those criminal networks that are impacting multiple jurisdictions and accomplishes this by sharing information across borders. It is a key element of Maryland’s public safety strategy and provides the basis for data-driven decision making both operationally and for policy development.

Enforcement Assisted Diversion) Program intern for Fall 2022 in our Criminal Justice Division. You will work alongside the LEAD Program Director and collaborate with various

The position will report to the Project Director and will assist with all aspects of project
management, helping to ensure successful implementation of the Regrounding Our Response
project plan. Regrounding Our Response is a federal grant funded project that will plan and
implement police-led and detention-based diversion programs across nine Maryland
jurisdictions. This involves monitoring project plans, schedules, budgets, and expenditures, organizing and participating in stakeholder meetings, and ensuring that project deadlines are met in a timely
manner.

The Supreme Court of the United States Police Department is currently seeking students for a police internship for the Fall 2022 semester. If you are seeking a career in law enforcement this is a wonderful opportunity to learn about federal law enforcement. Credit will be granted for this internship to eligible students through the CCJS department after the proper paperwork has been processed.


Description:

Duties include assisting officers on court days with the general public (advising the public on what is not permitted in the Courtroom, assisting with coat check, directing the hundreds of visitors to the correct locations and general information on the building and surrounding area). Assist the police in maintaining order and decorum, as well as a professional atmosphere in the building. Shadow uniformed officers in their day to day duties, as well as some clerical work. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.


Qualifications:

Successful completion of at least one year of college education. Excellent communication skills, ability to perform under pressure and deal with high level government officials and dignitaries. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and skill in following complex and varied oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships and to understand and interpret policies, directions, and procedures applicable to the police department are essential.   • Take detailed minutes at meetings, edit for coherence, and distribute to attendees, as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of client, staff, and organizational information.

Location

​INTERN POSITION INFORMATION

Maryland State Police Internship Program is a non-paid mentorship initiative that provides an introductory opportunity to students interested in learning about the administrative and operational functions of our agency.  It helps give students direction on what career path they may want to pursue both in the civilian and sworn field. 

Our program has been designed to provide some flexibility to meet high school, college or graduate academic needs by offering practical and technical opportunities throughout our Department's four bureaus:  the Office of the Superintendent, the Field Operations Bureau, the Criminal Investigations Bureau, and the Support Services Bureau. All students interested in interning with Maryland State Police are required to complete an application Request Form - MSP Student Intern and Volunteers in Police Support Programs. Submissions are accepted during the semesters below and do not guarantee placement.

This program is designed to meet both the academic and career objectives of students while providing useful administrative and operational support services to the Maryland State Police. The goals of the Student Intern Program are as follows:

  • To provide students the opportunity to become familiar with police operations and better understand, through direct experience and training, the complexities of the criminal justice system.
  • To foster students' interest in law enforcement careers.
  • To assist students interested in pursuing a law enforcement career with the Maryland State Police or other law enforcement agencies prepare for the police officer application process.
  • To enable high school, college and graduate school students to earn course credits and gain valuable career-related experience through meaningful and appropriate volunteer work.

HOURS and SCHEDULE:

Monday – Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm (37.5 hours within five (5) days per week); unless otherwise required or approved by management. Ability to work flexible hours, including holidays, is required.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of the CVIP Program Manager of the Exploited Children Division and supervisory staff members.


RESPONSIBILITY FOR PUBLIC CONTACT:

Frequent contact with law enforcement, visitors, and other interested parties requiring courtesy, discretion, and sound judgment is required.


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Analyst I position is responsible for reviewing data pertaining to identified victims of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) series to assist in all matters relevant to identifying unknown victims depicted in pornographic images/videos of children in child sexual abuse material content submitted to NCMEC by law enforcement and electronic service providers. Additionally, the position is responsible for assisting law enforcement and prosecutors in support of their investigations and prosecutions of CSAM offenses.


Reports reviewed by CVIP contain graphic pornographic content or links to pornographic content online. This content may depict minors and/or adults. Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) includes images, videos and text describing child sexual exploitation. This position requires an employee that can handle exposure to sensitive content as well as demonstrate a high level of accuracy and thoroughness in their work product.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn and demonstrate a strong familiarity with child sexual abuse material series.
  • Conduct efforts through image and video analysis to identify unknown victims featured in child sexual abuse material.
  • Provide case-specific technical assistance to law enforcement and prosecutors in child sexual abuse material cases.
  • Review copies of child sexual abuse material and select files containing “identified” children such as pornography involving child victims who have been identified by law enforcement.
  • Produce and maintain “Child Identifications Reports” to requesting agencies detailing those image/video files accepted in a court of law as “non-virtual” child sexual abuse material.
  • Review child sexual abuse material submitted to NCMEC’s CyberTipline by Electronic Service Providers for identified children, content and context tagging, victim identification efforts and assistance with survivor services.
  • Review and process CSAM reports that are received by NCMEC’s CyberTipline containing possible unidentified child victims and make reports available to law enforcement agencies per ECD policy.
  • Determine methods, techniques, plans, parameters, and approaches to be used in conducting file analysis; promote the Best Practices for Identifying Victims of Child Pornography when speaking with law enforcement attempting to identify victims.
  • Maintain updated knowledge on subject matter relevant to combatting child sexual exploitation such as open-source and link intelligence and resources, image/video/audio and EXIF metadata analysis tools and capabilities, emerging exploitable technologies such as encryption, VPN and Dark Web, and Survivor-informed research and best practices.
  • Work with domestic and international law-enforcement agencies to gather detailed information pertaining to children who may have been used in the creation of CSAM.
  • Maintain and update the Series Management System (SMS) with information regarding victims seen within child pornography series.
  • Work with law enforcement in providing technical assistance in their efforts to protect children from sexual exploitation.
  • Work in conjunction with federal law-enforcement agencies in sharing relevant information on CSAM series of identified children.
  • Ensure technical requests for information and assistance are processed in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with ongoing ECD initiatives to help law enforcement in their child sexual exploitation investigations (i.e. Law Enforcement Services Portal, electronic submission solutions, etc.).
  • After becoming certified on CVIP report processing, maintain pace and quality comparable with all CVIP analysts.
  • Attend internal and external trainings on an as needed basis.
  • Conduct tours of NCMEC for visiting law enforcement and other guests to promote public awareness of the Exploited Children Division and activities to counter child sexual exploitation.
  • Willingness to accept day, evening, and weekend shift work.
  • Promote a professional image.
  • Communicate with coworkers, management, law-enforcement officials, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions, including the ECD Mission and Values.
  • Respond promptly when returning telephone calls and replying to correspondence.
  • Promote and exhibit loyalty to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the cause of protecting children worldwide.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BA or BS in Criminal Justice, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of two years’ work and/or internship experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
