Studying Abroad? Apply for the Gilman International Scholarship

Are you an undergraduate student, Pell Grant recipient, and U.S. citizen with international interests? You may be eligible to apply for the U.S. State Department’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which provides up to $5,000 for studying or interning abroad! Last year 44 UMD students applied for a Gilman and 36 received the scholarship--an 82% acceptance rate! These students won a total of $172,000!

Deadline: 
October 6, 2022, for programs that begin between December 1, 2022 and October 31, 2023 
 
Eligibility:
Students must be:
  • A U.S. citizen
  • A Pell Grant recipient 
  • Undergraduate (includes all majors)
  • All program lengths are eligible
