Criminal Law Research Intern

The Criminal Law Research Intern will conduct research on topics related to the criminal justice system to support the organization’s advocacy, program design, and policy recommendations. This position is ideal for students or emerging professionals interested in criminal law, legal reform, and the intersection between the justice system and community well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Research criminal law policies, statutes, and case law at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Analyze trends in criminal justice reform, sentencing, rehabilitation, and reentry programs.
  • Track legislative updates and pending bills that may impact the communities served by Chase Change Org.
  • Compile legal and policy briefs for leadership, stakeholders, and advocacy campaigns.
  • Provide summaries of relevant court decisions or legal precedents.
  • Assist in gathering data for reports, grant proposals, and public education materials.
  • Maintain an organized database of legal sources, statutes, and reference materials.
Qualifications:
  • Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Interest or coursework in criminal law, legal studies, or public policy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace; legal research databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw) a plus.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
