Introduction

The Prince William Department of Social Services, Advocacy, Prevention & Protection Division, seeks to hire an experienced Senior Human Services Caseworker (Forensic Interviewer) for our Child Advocacy Center (CAC).  Child Advocacy Centers provide community-based, child-friendly, multidisciplinary services for children and families affected by sexual abuse, severe physical abuse and/or have been witness to a violent crime. CACs bring together forensic investigators, law enforcement, prosecutors, and medical and mental health professionals to provide a coordinated, comprehensive response to victims and their caregivers.  Services that the center will provide include providing information on local child protection policy, forensic interviews, referrals to and coordination of forensic medical exams, advocacy and support services (examples: court, school, community), case coordination, mental health services, and community education.
 
ABOUT THIS ROLE:
 
The ideal candidate will have experience conducting developmentally and culturally sensitive forensic interviews of abused or neglected children; knowledge of child abuse investigative procedures; ability and willingness to establish and maintain positive working relationships; ability to maintain composure in high stress situations and handle emergencies; knowledge and understanding of child development, child abuse dynamics and the impact of trauma; ability to work in a cooperative manner with a diverse professional groups; excellent organizational skills with an attention to detail, accuracy and time management; and the ability to work within a fast-moving environment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in the human services field; or bachelor’s degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of two years appropriate and related experience in a human services related area.

PREFERENCES:  We prefer candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Experience conducting developmentally and culturally sensitive forensic interviews of abused or neglected children;
  • Training and experience in the area of child abuse;
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English)

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:  
Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week.  May be required to work some evenings and weekends.
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  
All DSS staff members are required to provide emergency human services work in the event of a community emergency or disaster. This position requires a valid driver’s license.  All candidates must pass local, state and federal background checks.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $74,217.00 - $102,117.00 Annually
