In particular, the intern projects will consist of both
external traffic safety initiatives and an internal Department police safe
driving campaign. The intern will assist
in reviewing crash data as well as trying to identify contributing factors and
common characteristics among the crash data.
The intern will also perform tasks related to the Assistant Chief’s
position on the State’s traffic safety committee. In addition, the intern should expect to
attend meetings and briefings with the Assistant Chief and shadow him on a daily
basis.
The ideal candidate will have completed at least two years
of his or her undergraduate studies.
Students majoring in criminology, psychology, sociology and other
related disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply. Intern candidates should possess outstanding
communication skills, both oral and written.
The ideal candidate should be an extrovert that is not be afraid of
co-presenting to large groups and should be prepared to work with others on
many ongoing projects. The candidate
should also be a self-starter who is capable of working on his or her own on
occasion. This internship requires a
very high energy individual who is flexible, hard-working and prepared for a
very “on the go” experience.
The intern will work up to 40 hours a week from May through
August (dates are flexible). The intern
may begin part time work immediately through the end of the current semester if
desired. Intern candidates must be able
to drive themselves to the Police Headquarters building for work each day. The office is not public transit
accessible.
