“We Got Us: Black Terps Empowerment and Wellness Group”
The purpose of this group is to provide a space for Black undergraduate students to learn how to better navigate higher education at a predominantly white institution (PWI). Topics covered include but are not limited to self-compassion/love, mental wellness, Black joy, dealing with racial oppression, and community building. Furthermore, this culturally tailored group aims to help Black undergraduate TERPS connect, reflect, heal and thrive. The group will run on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30pm starting on February 17th. All group sessions will be conducted remotely via zoom and students are required to complete a screening appointment with the counseling center in order to participate in the group.
Students should contact Victoria McNeil-Young, M.S. (vmcneil1@umd.edu) or Nelson Zounlome, M.S.Ed. (nzounlom@umd.edu) for more information or to schedule a group screening appointment.
