Introduction
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites eligible candidates to apply for an internship with Natural Resource Police. This opportunity will provide hands-on experience in the Criminal Justice Field.  

LOCATION OF POSITION
Stevensville, MD - Queen Annes County

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The main purpose of this position is to develop, implement and manage outreach programs that strengthen relationships between the Natural Resources Police officers and diverse community groups. The coordinator will organize community meetings, educational workshops and events to promote public safety awareness, enhance transparency and encourage community engagement with law enforcement initiatives. Collaborate with various organizations to address public concerns, support crime prevention efforts and ensure that community needs are heard and addressed by law enforcement partners. In addition to planning and facilitating outreach activities, the coordinator will develop materials and communication strategies to ensure clear and consistent messaging between the Natural Resources Police and the public. Complete other duties as assigned.

The internship runs 10-12 weeks (approximately 150 hours) between (June, July, August). The specific start/end dates, hours, and schedule will be determined in collaboration between the intern and the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Applicant must be a current college student, undergraduate or graduate level.   
  • GPA of 2.5 or above is required for academic credit. 
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Criminal Justice or related field of study. 
  • Candidate must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with a proven ability to work with diverse populations and build meaningful relationships.  This role requires a comprehensive understanding of community dynamics, sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to navigate complex situations involving public safety concerns.
