Internship Opportunity: National Archives Office of Inspector general

File:National Archives Building north side, Washington, D.C. 2011.jpgThe National Archives Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office within the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) that helps the Agency to more effectively and efficiently ensure ready access to essential evidence. OIG is responsible for bringing particularly serious problems, abuses, or deficiencies to the immediate attention of Congress while keeping the Archivist informed.  The Office of Inspector General performs audits and investigations of NARA, its contractors, and its grantees, to promote economy and efficiency and to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse.

The National Archives Office of Inspector General is currently seeking two students for an investigations based internship for the spring 2014 semester. 
Internship 1:
The duties are responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Supporting agents with case investigation
  • Assist agents with case preparation
  • Help build and maintain case file database
  • Assist Special Agent in Charge with Training database

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Passion for law enforcement, fraud and investigations
  • Ability to communication well both written and verbally
  •  Working knowledge of MS Excel
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Access
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Potential for weekend and evening work
  • Schedule with a block time available (no less than 4 hours) during business hours


Internship 2:
  • The duties are responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Supporting agents with case investigation
  • Assist agents with case preparation
  • Help build and maintain case file database
  • Assist agents with building website and social media

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Passion for investigations, history and culture
  • Skilled in social media
  • Proficient technical writing skills
  • Some knowledge of computer science
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Creative and innovative
  • Schedule with a block time available (no less than 4 hours) during business hours



Students must have a UMCP cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and at least 56 credits completed.  Please submit a cover letter, resume, and unofficial transcript to David Tana in CCJS Advising no later than 12:00PM, February 14, 2014 to be considered for either position.  Interns are expected to be available to start work in 30 days of their interview.  Both internships are eligible for credit through the CCJS internship program.
