The City of Gaithersburg Police Department is accepting applications for a Crime Analyst to collect, compile, examine, analyze, report, and disseminate information concerning crime trends and forecasts within the Gaithersburg area. This is a civilian position assigned to the Department's Special Operations Bureau. The approximate start date for the position is anticipated to be August 5, 2024.
The Crime Analyst performs a variety of functions involved in analyzing and reporting findings on criminal activity, crime trends, patterns and series, and other related statistical data and information in support of crime prevention and suppression efforts. Information identified by the Crime Analyst assists the Department in the deployment of resources, aids the investigative process, and assists with increasing apprehensions and clearing cases. To be successful in this position, you must demonstrate excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication (verbal and written) skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; be proficient in or have the ability to quickly learn computer program applications commonly used in law enforcement and data analysis; and be able to effectively organize work, establish priorities, manage time, and complete assigned duties with minimal supervision.
Anticipated starting salary for this position is negotiable within the target hiring range ($74,000 to $81,000) and will be offered at a level consistent with the relevant experience and qualifications of the candidate.
