Summary: 
The Academic Achievement Programs (AAP) provides high-quality educational support services, including advising, counseling, teaching, and skill enhancement to improve the retention and graduation of Program students/participants from secondary and postsecondary education. Specifically, AAP’s mission is to provide services that enhance the academic potential and personal growth of each student/participant served.
In an effort to expand course offerings and provide tutoring services to non-AAP students, the Academic Success and Tutorial Services (ASTS) was created. ASTS provides no cost tutoring to both AAP and non-AAP students who are in courses with high DWF (drop, withdraw, fail) rates. This is an appointment based, 60 minute session, small group tutoring service. Courses offered include biology, chemistry, computer science, economics, mathematics/statistics, and physics.
Primary Responsibilities: 
- Set a minimum of four hours of availability for ASTS tutoring sessions each week
- Prepare and upload a session preparation outline for each week a tutor holds at least one session (informed by professor materials and instructional design topics taught during tutor training sessions)
- Attend monthly staff meetings with the tutorial coordinator
- Maintain communication with course professor and AAP Tutorial Coordinator
- Adhere to the evaluation process (observations, student evaluations, and debrief meeting with the AAP Tutorial Coordinator)
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: 
- Be an enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Maryland
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
- Achieved at least a B or higher in the class they are applying for
- Have good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds
- Have a good level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
- Willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications: 
- Hold previous teaching, mentoring, or leadership experience
- Have a flexible schedule during normal business hours (M-F 9am-9pm) that allows for the time commitment of being an ASTS Tutor
- Knowledge of content-specific study strategies and note-taking skills
- Availability to work with a range of courses and sections
Compensation: 
- Starts at $15.00 per hour
- Pay commensurate with experience and class level
