Field Engagement Intern | CASA DC

Field Engagement Intern

**This internship requires at least a 10-month commitment and the intern must be at least 21 years of age. Graduate students, especially MSW and law students, would be the best fit for this role*

Job Description:

The Field Engagement Intern will focus on community engagement, specifically through serving as a CASA volunteer on high-need cases. Please indicate your program preferences on the application form.

Acting as a CASA volunteer will provide a very hands-on opportunity to connect with youth, families, service providers, and the community we serve. The pre-service volunteer training that you would complete is excellent preparation for this role. However, like all CASA volunteers, you will be provided with significant and ongoing support from your supervisor as well. You can use the experiences (with names and identifying information changes) for assignments such as process recordings and biopsychosocial. This will also provide a close-up view of advocacy and interaction with the court system.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a CASA volunteer for 1-3 youth

  • Meet with youth at least weekly for mentorship and advocacy

  • Communicate with the youth’s team regularly

  • Advocate for youth’s needs and connect them to resources as needed

  • Write court reports for court hearings in a timely manner

  • Meet with CASA Supervisor regularly to provide updates and discuss the case

  • Attend in-person outreach events

  • Participate in youth workshops and/or community groups

  • Write blog posts to be posted to the CASA DC website
