Paralegal / Intake Coordinator
Location: Washington, DC
Salary: $64,000 – $85,000
Closing Date: March 22, 2024


The Paralegal / Intake Coordinator is a critical member of the ACLU-DC Legal Department and contributes to the team’s efforts through two primary functions: (1) providing litigation support (20-30% of the work) and (2) managing the legal intake process (70-80% of the work), which includes logging and tracking all intake, interviewing potential clients, investigating potential cases, and making recommendations to the Legal Department regarding which potential clients to represent and which to refer to other organizations. The Paralegal / Intake Coordinator also assists with the supervision of interns and volunteers.  The Paralegal / Intake Coordinator is supervised by the Legal Director.  


The Paralegal / Intake Coordinator must be a self-directed, highly organized person with energy, enthusiasm, strategic thinking, superior time management abilities, great humanity and compassion, and a strong commitment to civil rights and liberties. 

Education and Experience

Required

  • College degree
  • Experience with editing / close review of documents (such as previous experience as a paralegal, which is preferred but not required)
  • Experience working closely with members of the public in an assistance or service capacity (such as working with legal clients, counseling, medical or mental health support, public benefits or housing assistance, immigration status assistance)

Preferred

  • Previous experience as a paralegal
