St Mary’s County: 23110 Leonard Hall Drive, Leonardtown, MD 20650

POSITION DUTIES
To protect the citizens of Maryland by interviewing offenders who are:
  1. placed on probation by the courts;  
  2. released on parole by the Maryland Parole Commission;  
  3. released from prison on mandatory supervision release; or 
  4. on supervision. 
This individual is the first employee from the Division of Parole and Probation to interact with these offenders who are often angry, confrontational, and resistant to questioning. The accuracy and tone of this initial interview are critical to the supervision/monitoring process. In the absence of this individual, these duties are performed by clerical staff, agents, or monitors. 

The individual in this position must read and thoroughly explain to offenders all of the general and special conditions of supervision/monitoring; accurately and completely enter required information into the Offender Based State Correctional Information System (OBSCIS II); explain to offenders the requirements for reporting to the agent/monitor for the first time; and gather information from a variety of documents and information systems about each offender to build a thorough case file for an agent/monitor to begin supervising/monitoring the case. In some jurisdiction assessment of supervision level and/or initial referrals for treatment may be done. Interview offenders in order to gather necessary information, review rules and conditions, answer questions, and provide reporting instructions to appropriate agent/office assignment. Input accurate and complete data in OBSCIS II informational systems in order to timely open offender cases.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of experience interviewing offenders and processing parole and probation documents.
