Position Description:
Orion Policy Institute is seeking an intern – Transnational Crime Trends Project to join our dynamic team of interns. The intern will support Orion’s research agenda by assisting in the analysis and contextualization of emerging patterns in transnational organized crime. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with research and analysis on transnational organized crime trends, including illicit trafficking, financial crimes, cyber-enabled networks, corruption, and their intersections with governance, security, and development. 
  • Support the drafting of op-eds, policy briefs, research materials, and reports that advance understanding of the evolving landscape of transnational crime and its global security implications. 
  • Monitor and summarize developments in transnational crime, relevant legislation, and international cooperation efforts to inform Orion’s research and policy outputs. 
  • Work collaboratively with senior fellows, researchers, and policy analysts to support the development of evidence-based, actionable policy recommendations. 
  • Conduct background research on emerging technologies and financial systems that enable illicit activities, such as cryptocurrency and dark web operations. 
  • Assist in planning and coordinating webinars, roundtables, and other public events, including logistical support, note-taking, and preparation of background materials. 
  • Support the development of concept notes, project ideas, and funding proposals for future research initiatives. 
Qualifications:
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student (or recent graduate) in international relations, security studies, criminology, political science, law, economics, or a related field. 
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with some experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods. 
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with an interest in producing clear and compelling policy analysis. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote work environment.
  • Interest or coursework related to international legal frameworks, multilateral cooperation mechanisms, or regional dynamics connected to organized crime and illicit economies. 
  • Demonstrated interest in crime, security, governance, or international policy issues through academic work, internships, or extracurricular activities.
