The Legal Aid Society is currently accepting applications for their Summer 2021 Criminal Defense Practice Investigative Internship. This will be a virtual, remote internship. Interns start with an intensive training program that includes Criminal Defenses, Constitutional Law, Ethics, Discovery Reform, Social Media Research, and much more. During the internship, students will work with attorneys and investigators in the review and examination of prosecutorial discovery and defense documents received on felony cases ranging from domestic violence, assaults, robbery, burglary up to and including homicide cases.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review confidential prosecutorial discovery materials including but not limited to video surveillance footage, bodycam and 911 calls
- Review law enforcement and correctional communications.
- Extensive online research including social media and news platforms.
- Participate in defense team meetings.
- Participate in interviews with clients, family members and witnesses over Zoom.
- Support and assist investigators and attorneys as directed.
- Other duties as assigned
