Job Summary

This position is located in the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH). The Office of Administrative Hearings is an independent, impartial, administrative court that provides fair and efficient adjudication services for more than twenty-five (25) District of Columbia agencies, boards, and commissions and for certain private parties.

This position functions as a Legal Assistant, responsible for assisting and supporting the Chief Administrative Law Judge, Associate Administrative Law Judges, Executive Director, Clerk of Court, and legal staff in the performance of the duties designed to ensure that OAH provides fair and efficient adjudication services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supports the day-to-day administration of the OAH docket. Enters and maintains accurate data records in OAH's case management system, including docket data. Manages hardcopy and electronic case files. Interacts and communicates with the public orally and in writing when providing customer service related to the adjudication of cases by OAH. Without providing legal advice, answers a wide range of questions from the public regarding calendaring and filing procedures, case status, fees, and fines and refers questions to appropriate OAH staff;

Prepares, maintains, delivers, and retrieves case files and documents in accordance with policies and procedures developed by the Chief Administrative Law Judge, Executive Director, and Clerk of Court. Executes certificates of service and serves court orders on parties in cases adjudicated by OAH. Performs cashier's duties consistent with procedures developed by the District of Columbia Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) and OAH, including accepting payment transactions related to fees, fines, and penalties; posting and updating payments in OAH's case management system; reconciling receipts, generating payment activity reports; and issuing receipts for payments received.
