The acquisition and procurement group within the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is seeking students interested in gaining a competitive edge and marketable experience through an opportunity with the Federal Government. Student volunteer positions are currently available for the Summer and Fall of 2013. The DOT spends billions of dollars on contracts and grants every year. Minimizing waste and abuse through sound acquisition management is an ongoing challenge for DOT. Acquisition reform emphasizing increased accountability within the acquisition and grant arena continues to be a part of the Administration’s agenda and is an ongoing focus for Congress. The IG’s acquisition and procurement audit group conducts audits of DOT’s direct contracts and the contracts of DOT grant recipients. As a member of this group, you will learn about DOT’s mission and lines of business, become informed on Federal acquisition related news and regulations, and be introduced to the Federal audit process.

1.  Possession of an Associate's Degree or it's equivalent (60 college credits or 90 college quarter hours) at time of application. We do not substitute prior law enforcement or military experience for the credit requirement.

2.  Not less than 21 years of age at the time of graduation from the Academy.

3.  United States citizenship.

4.  Possession of a valid driver's license.

5.  Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the Department of Police.

Successful candidates must pass a written examination, structured interview, polygraph examination, background investigation, psychological and medical evaluations.

Job Opportunity: American Systems Latent Print Technichian

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is looking for Jr Latent Print Technicians! This position is responsible for supporting a team of forensic specialists in executing a government agency mission. This person will demonstrate the ability to perform and administer laboratory operations supporting forensic latent print processing in accordance with established practices and procedures. The individual will be able to apply scientific and administrative concepts and procedures and streamline those activities to maximize throughput while maintaining strict high quality standards. Must be effective communicator in both oral and written products. Should have knowledge of law enforcement and DOD forensic methods and practices and be capable of working easily with both approaches to forensic analyses. Requires understanding of analysis techniques for recovery and analysis of fingerprint, DNA and trace evidence.

An information session will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 10:00AM on campus in Susquehanna Hall room 1120.  American Systems will conduct interviews on the spot with all viable candidates. Please dress business casual and bring a copy of your resume!

Peer Advisor Position Available in CCJS Advising

The CCJS Undergraduate Advising office is currently seeking a peer advisor for the summer 2013 and fall 2013 semesters.  The peer advisor will be responsible for greeting students, answering general major questions, and secretarial duties within the CCJS Advising office.  This is a wonderful opportunity to work in our department, interact with CCJS faculty and staff, and gain valuable experience in the advising world.

Qualifications:

• Student must be a declared CCJS major
• Student must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA
• Student must have at least 30 credits completed
• Student must be available for at least 10-20 hours a week during the summer and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00AM – 4:00PM during the fall semester

Duties: The intern’s primary responsibilities will be to assist with conducting local substance abuse prevention needs assessments and program evaluations.

Specific duties include:
