Spring & Summer 2023 Internships | Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland

The Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland seeks unpaid, volunteer investigative interns in our Baltimore office for the fall, spring and summer semesters. Investigative interns learn under the guidance of staff investigators. They work with legal counsel to investigate allegations of criminal misconduct. Their main duties include conducting background investigations on witnesses, interviewing witnesses, gathering records, conducting crime scene investigations, serving subpoenas, and preparing for trial and other court appearances.  We encourage applicants to receive outside grants and funding during their internship. Preference is given to full time volunteers.

Qualifications
We prefer undergraduate students who have an interest in criminal defense and criminal law who have strong analytical, research and writing skills. Interested students should send a cover letter, resume and references to Chief Investigator Trish Slater either by mail (100 S. Charles Street, Tower II, 9th Floor, Baltimore, Maryland 21201) or email (Trish_Slater@fd.org).
