The Opportunity
Abt Associates seeks a qualified Social Science Analyst to support domestic projects in the area of criminal and social justice, as well as behavioral and public health. This role is open to remote candidates or can sit in any Abt office including Rockville, MD, Cambridge, MA, Durham, NC, and Atlanta, GA.

Core Responsibilities
  • Work on assignments that are moderately complex under indirect supervision where there is latitude for independent action and decision-making; exercise initiative to refer complex non-routine matters
  • Independently perform a variety of research and analytic tasks, train and assist less experienced staff and troubleshoot questions and problems
  • Collect, compile, validate, clean, analyze and interpret qualitative and/or quantitative data and trends. May include key informant interviews, focus groups, surveys, document review and secondary data from states’ Departments of Corrections or similar agencies.
  • Applies knowledge of intermediate level computer-based word processing, applications, spreadsheets, and database applications, especially Excel
  • Develops data visualizations including charts, graphs, and presentations
  • Provide administrative management for projects and/or proposals, including project work plans and schedules, deliverable trackers, and research team coordination
  • Support business development through helping draft portions of research proposals and managing the proposal process.
  • Apply knowledge of resources to scan professional journals and publications to extract and summarize relevant information for proposals and research projects, for example literature reviews on practices of civil courts and available data
  • Under general supervision, collaborate with clients virtually or in person to share project status and findings and obtain feedback

  • Data cleaning and analysis skills in using statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, Stata, R, Python) preferred
  • Academic or work experience related to criminology, criminal justice, sociology, and/or other social science research preferred
