Summer 2023 Racial Justice and Equity Internship | League of Conservation Voters

Location: Flexible (the intern may decide whether to work remotely or from an LCV office)
Duration: 12 Weeks – May – August 2023 (start and end dates flexible)
Schedule and Compensation: 40 hours per week; $16.10 per hour

General Description:
LCV believes our earth is worth fighting for because everyone has a right to clean air, water, and a safe, healthy community. To ensure those rights are protected, we help people use their power to shape policy, hold politicians and polluters accountable, and influence elections.
For more than 50 years, LCV has grown into a potent political force for protecting our planet and everyone who inhabits it. We have built a powerful national movement with 30 state affiliates, and grassroots and community organizing programs across the country.

LCV is seeking a Racial Justice and Equity (RJE) Intern who will support the Chief Officer for Racial Justice and Equity (CORJE) in aligning our individual, departmental, and team work plans with LCV’s strategic plan in ways that significantly center racial justice and equity. The internship will provide our RJE Intern with opportunities to develop a broad understanding of LCV’s efforts to center RJE in all of our work and how such efforts might be used to help any organization become a more equitable, inclusive, and effective workplace. The internship will culminate in a Capstone Project of the RJE Intern’s choosing designed to help LCV think through next steps in advancing our commitment to centering RJE in our work. 

The Racial Justice and Equity Intern will join a Summer 2023 internship cohort that will have access to development opportunities including a Capstone project, informational interviews with staff, and organization-wide training and discussions. Summer interns participate in brown bag lunches with various members of LCV’s senior management team, including President Gene Karpinski.

Intern Will Gain Experience in:
  • Collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data across the organization;
  • Creating organizational assessment tools designed to evaluate LCV’s progress on Racial Justice and Equity;
  • Researching the history of the conservation, environmental, and environmental movements;
  • Developing organizational change management skills centered in principles of Racial Justice and Equity;
  • Creating and implementing Learning and Professional Development for a complex organization.
Qualifications: 
  • Skills: Highly organized; strong attention to detail; excellent written and oral communications skills; strong research skills; exhibits solid judgment; critical thinking skills; able to work independently and as a team; able to handle multiple tasks; self-starter; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Knowledge of history of race relations within the U.S. preferred.

  • Working Conditions: Applicants need to be located in and legally authorized to work in the United States. LCV requires all employees working from our offices or participating in in-person meetings or events to be fully up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccinations, subject to reasonable accommodation as required by law.
