A
representative from the Exploited Children Division at the National Center for
Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) will give a presentation to students
regarding their program and pursuing a career at NCMEC upon graduation. The
event will take place TODAY Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 1:30PM to
2:30PM in Taliaferro Hall room 1101.
The
Exploited Children Division at NCMEC is comprised of two units, the
CyberTipline and the Child Victim Identification Program (CVIP). Both units
assist law enforcement throughout the world in investigations of child sexual
exploitation. The Congressionally-mandated CyberTipline is a means for law
enforcement, the public, and electronic service providers to report crimes
against children. Those reports are then analyzed by CyberTipline staff, who
are seeking information regarding jurisdiction of offense, so that the
appropriate law enforcement agency can be notified for further investigation.
The Child Victim Identification Program has a dual mission: (1) to help
prosecutors get convictions by proving that a real child is depicted in child
pornography images; and (2) to assist law enforcement in locating unidentified
child victims.
