About the Position:
This is entry-level professional inspectional and investigative work designed to evaluate, process, and prepare warrants for street investigations and for apprehension by Deputy Sheriffs. Incumbents are responsible for generating accurate, complete, and comprehensive information required by Deputy Sheriffs to locate and arrest wanted individuals. This position requires a thorough knowledge of all Criminal History Information Systems, and other sources accessible through Office of the Sheriff computer terminals. The ability to read, interpret, organize, and crossmatch information from one system to the other is necessary.
What You'll Do:
RECEIVES NEW WARRANTS
- Screens/responds to incoming calls from complainants, respondents, attorneys, and the public to identify/determine the validity of complaints received; to provide assistance/education to the caller; to obtain/gather information regarding specific cases; and/or refers calls to other agencies for assistance.
- Possesses a working knowledge of the various Criminal Justice Information Systems used by the Office of the Sheriff.
- Possesses knowledge of current extradition criteria and limitations.
- Conducts preliminary investigations of warrants in 10-day drawer and area drawers, as assigned.
- Investigates Type “4” warrants prior to being entered into MILES/NCIC.
- Investigates warrants to be sent to FBI Task Force and U.S. Marshals Task Force.
- Investigates requests to have Sheriff’s Office files combined or separated as required.
- Initiates Out of County investigations to facilitate the arrest and/or return of wanted persons to Prince George’s County.
- Updates the identification portion of the Warrant System as the investigation dictates.
- Completes an Investigation Sheet for each warrant investigated.
- Communicates with internal and external personnel appropriately to maintain an orderly flow of business to best represent the interest of the Sheriff’s Office.
- Confers with/coordinates actions among complainants, witnesses, respondents, and their representatives and other agencies, to coordinate actions that will resolve and gain compliance with applicable County, federal laws, and established policies and procedures.
- Maintains accurate statistical reports, logs, files and other records as required; completes all logs, files, inventories, and transmittals as required by supervisors when due.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree in programs involving investigative and social relations skills such as criminology, law enforcement, business or public administration, one of the social sciences or related fields.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledges, skills and abilities.
- Previous law enforcement experience.
- Experience with use of law enforcement systems.
