Join Alpha Phi Sigma: First Meeting on Oct 2

 The first meeting of Alpha Phi Sigma (APS) will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2023 from 3:30 PM - 4:00 PM on Zoom.  Current and interested members should try to attend.  


A new Board of Officers (President, Vice President, and Secretary) will be elected and activities will be planned.  Students interested in running for office should prepare a very brief presentation about themselves.  If you cannot attend but would like to run for an office, please email Nicole Amonett (jacksonn@umd.edu) a short blurb about yourself that will be read to the group.

Alpha Phi Sigma:
Alpha Phi Sigma is the National Criminal Justice Honor Society founded in 1942. Alpha Phi Sigma recognizes academic excellence of Undergraduate and Graduate students of Criminal Justice, as well as Juris Doctorate students.  The goals of Alpha Phi Sigma are to honor and promote academic excellence, community service, educational leadership and unity (http://www.alphaphisigma.org/). 


Membership Requirements:
Membership is open to CCJS majors who have completed at least 45 total credits with at least 12 credits in CCJS courses. Applicants must have completed at least one semester at UMD.  Undergraduate Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and a minimum CCJS major grade point average of a 3.30. 

To Apply:
Applicants must fill out the application and submit the fee (we accept personal check made out to Alpha Phi Sigma, money order, and cash in exact change)  of $90.00 ($85 goes to the National fee and $5 goes to the local chapter).  Students can submit the completed application and fee to CCJS Advising or place in Nicole Amonett's mailbox inside Lefrak Hall, room 2220. Applications are processed once at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.  Once a student has been accepted, they will receive a membership card, certificate, and pin. Alpha Phi Sigma generally meets a couple of times a semester and has a variety of student activities during the fall and spring semesters.

The application to join the UMD Omega Iota chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma is open until 4:00 PM on Friday, October 11
