NASA Protective Services Division: Security Assistant Position (paid)


The Protective Services Division at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center is looking to hire a student security assistant for their office.  This student will gain practical knowledge of security procedures, processes, and methods during this experience.  This position is not eligible for CCJS internship credit.  Students are expected to begin work early June.  This is a paid position with the possibility of conversion to a civil servant position with NASA upon completion of degree requirements and graduation.  The duties are as follows:
  • Researches names of personnel to assist the office in finalizing reports to management of potential violations
  • Provides general calendar maintenance clerical services
  • Reviews outgoing correspondence and case files for procedural and grammatical accuracy, attachments, dates, signature, complete addresses, and destinations
  • Prepares weekly summary reports on significant events from protective services division
  • Makes travel arrangements including transportation and hotel reservations for staff
  • Screens supervisor and staff member calls and determines if the call requires their attention
  • Provides general clerical public contact support services
  • Assists in the processing of Foreign Nationals and Special Events on Center
  • Reviews protective services forms for completeness prior to obtaining supervisors signature
  • Integrating several types of software to generate documents such as presentations, charts, graphs, correspondence, spreadsheets
  • Providing office automation assistance to staff. Ensures that the completed documentation is prepared, updated, and distributed
  •  Serves as focal point for systems to track office assignments to ensure timely reply or actions
  • Uses software applications to draw information in order to prepare/assist in preparation of reports

Qualifications:
·         Student must be a sophomore or junior
·         Student must be a CCJS major
·         Student must have minimum GPA of a 3.0
