Volunteer Opportunity - Court Watch Mongtomery

Interested in getting some experience with the law and the court process?  Want to work for a non-profit that is devoted to improving the court process?  Then CourtWatch Montgomery is the perfect opportunity for you!

"Court Watch Montgomery is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. We fight domestic violence by working to improve the process that abuse victims move through in our county courts. We monitor restraining hearings and document where things are working well, and where there are problems. We recommend innovative approaches gleaned from other judicial systems and from recent research."

CourtWatch Montgomery is currently looking for court monitors for the District Court in Rockville.  The student would commit to one morning, twice a month (or more if the student wants to). There is a brief application process whereby the student would meet for coffee with one of the leaders, participate in 2-3 hours of classroom training and would then shadow another volunteer in court before monitoring on their own.  CourtWatch also has some really interesting opportunities coming up in terms of monitoring Circuit Court (very interesting!) as well as bail bonds hearings.  There are even research opportunities available regarding the effects of domestic violence on children as well as criminal prosecutions of these cases -- all information available in the CourtWatch database.
